Happy with Hughton?

I agree with those who regard CH as the best man available. A 3.5 year contract as ‘manager’ is a respectful contract, too. I hate all this ‘head coach’ claptrap.

Regarding his style, I am relaxed. I agree with those who note that Gussie was dreadfully negative, but also agree that it was very very good to have that style (at the time). We were a well-respected hard to beat side, when we could have been leggy fledglings finding out Championship feet. After Gussie the less said about our style the better; we were a bit rose tinted under Oscar, and my own pink spectacles were finally put away in the cramped corner seats at Pride Park (or whatever they call it these days).

So, style wise, I cannot understand any head in hands groaning and the implication that that CH will destroy our heritage. We have no heritage, just a pleasing interlude of Poyet-inspired possession football and caution (which, as someone has stated, does not ‘translate’ to the higher level and has turned Sunderland into bore draw specialists – and likely to go down, let’s face it).

On a separate note but related to availability, was Robinson not ‘available’? We interviewed him apparently. No statements made so I guess we didn’t fancy him.

All in all I am extremely impressed with how TB handled it all, given that he was clearly not expecting SH to walk. I am also very pleased the club has vowed to keep the little welsh git on board.

Not jumping up and down, but quietly happy. Frankly nobody apart from José Mourinho would have had me jumping up and down, though. Seagulls!

It seems Robinson chose to stay at MK Dons. Apparently he had made promises to certain players and other figures at the club. Not too disappointed he didn't get it to be honest.

Just one thought though - does anybody else think that Parish deliberately sabotaged the transfer merry go round trying to ensure that we didn't get a "first" choice.
As soon as Colin got the boot there was always going to be a scramble around those managers that were out of work. Or am I taking conspiracy theories too far

My only worry is the boring football. It's not going to get the Amex rocking which would be a huge help in getting vital points in a relegation scrap. Really hope he shuts me up though.

Simply put, yes.

For a more long-winded explanation: I feel he is a better manager than he is given credit for and for a change has decent experience of this division. In our current predicament, I feel this will be vital in picking up the points needed to stay up. Okay so the football won't be as pretty as it has been at times under the recent managers we've had but the Albion will only play their best football when they've got some confidence back and before that can happen, we need to get some more wins under our belts. Is he the man to eventually win us promotion? Well detractors will point to the strength of his Newcastle side that he inherited which really shouldn't have got relegated in the first place but managers do not go unbeaten at home all season and storm the division simply through good fortune. He's certainly got something, whatever that may be.

I'm very much in agreement with this. Always liked him at the Toon, and thought he was treated badly at the end. Good appointment, especially when our context is taken into account. Now we need to get behind him and the team, rather than bleating on.

I've been vocal in my support for Nathan Jones, but I am very happy with Hughton. He did well at Newcastle, Birmingham & Norwich. Yes Newcastle had more resources, but many managers have failed with more & his Newcastle team had a record points tally and scored loads. He was also the manager who took Andy Carroll out of the reserve team & sold him for £50m... His record at Birmingham stacks up really well, and he kept up Norwich for a season comfortably. Not a great second season at Norwich, but that's the only blip on his career and for me it's not a huge blip... a club like Norwich will always be a yoyo team.

So very much in favour of Hughton, and it's great the supporters now recognise that we have a little rough diamond in Nathan Jones waiting in the wings. I hope he is patient enough to wait his turn rather than go for a job lower in the leagues

Yes, very, good bloke by all accounts, well liked by all he has worked with and for, with many years experience behind him, Jones was not what we needed in this current predicament.

Yeah the Meade is pleased with this appointment. I trust in him, and that's a very good starting point. I'll be hoping that decisions are made fairly quickly about a spine of the team to build around, and that we keep our identity as a stylish side with a general route one allergy. Looking forward to Charlton away and seeing what we are about.

I'm happy with this appointment. Looking at the candidates available, this is probably as good as we could expect. Lets not forget, we're struggling at the bottom of the championship with a real possibility of relegation to League 1 so dreams of Pulis and Hoddle were just that.....dreams.

I think Hughton will stabilise the club, get the players working for each other and perhaps with the addition of one or two players, we can push up towards mid table by the end of the season.
