There we were wishing our nephew a happy birthday today, whilst he was boarding a train at Hampden Park.
Then in the background, an announcement comes across the tannoy wishing all a happy new year, then started to list all the latest engineering works for the week.
Unbelievable, they lure you in with seasons greetings, then wham, they blindside with the latest doom and gloom.
Good luck to you all when playing with the southern rail train set in 2019.

I have to be very close to you on 3 Jan in Uxbridge. Fully expecting the clowns to be running a replacement bus service or some such.

Are you travelling by car or train?

Train. Can't do the M25 in rush hour as I end up feeling like Michael Douglas in Falling Down  . At least with Southern / Met Line I can work or read a good book.

Our head office is there so I end up doing the trip a couple of times a week normally.

We will all have to be patient with trains while the genius that is Transport Minister Chris Grayling takes time off to sort the cross-channel ferry crisis. Yes, that's right - the one he has got us into by awarding a multi-million-pound contract to a company with no actual ships.

I know - it is (almost) unbelievable. But there again is it really ?
I have friends who were at university with him where he was apparently derided as a complete and utter twunt.

If Southern Rail ever brought out a train set, I'm sure everything would fail, and it would be quickly put back into the box and returned to the retailer for a full refund

The trouble is, when the real thing fails, as it often does, we don't often get a full refund do we?

Came to Gunwharf Quay this morning, no problem.

The only slight problem seems to be no trains back.

Brighton Main Line commuters facing nine days of disruption

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-47201629

Thousands of commuters on one of the busiest rail routes in the South East will face major disruption next week as part of a £300m improvement project.

There will be no direct trains between London and Brighton and between Lewes or Eastbourne and the city from Sunday.

Network Rail said surrounding services would be affected while engineers renew and upgrade the Brighton Main Line.

It said season-ticket holders would not be compensated because alternative journeys were being provided.

The nine-day closure until 24 February coincides with the school half term when Network Rail hopes passenger numbers will be lower and some people will be able to be more flexible with their travel plans or take annual leave.

The £67m upgrade is the biggest refurbishment of the line - which is used by more than 300,000 passengers per day and renowned for being one of the most unreliable parts of the network - in more than 30 years.

Network Rail said without the programme of work, reliability on the line would deteriorate in the months and years ahead, leading to more delays for passengers travelling between London and the south coast.
