Happy 30th Birthday, the British Caledonian shirt!

This was the first Albion shirt I ever owned (which I bought second hand for £20 in 1994), and still my favourite! To me, nothing screams 'Brighton are top flight football' more than this all-blue strip.

It was the club's first ever polyester kit, its first adidas kit, and also the first to bear a shirt sponsor. The club linked up with British Caledonian Airways in a three deal worth £180,000 (about the price of half of a Mickey Thomas).

The shirt was worn by Brighton & Hove Albion, for the first time, against Israeli side Maccabi Netanya on 29th July 1980 (30 years tomorrow, in other words). Happy birthday!

My collection starts at 1977, which is when the round Seagulls badge first adorned Albion shirts. That British Caledonian shirt is the ONLY home Brighton shirt I do not own, anyone got one they could bear to part with?

I had one..it faded to lilac after a while.

Mine did the same - also the fuzzy felt lettering on the front seemed to act as a magnet to any stray bits of thread, fluff, dust and similar that were nearby. Still a classic shirt and the retro version sold in the clubshop is not a patch on the original.

bought one off ebay a year ago for 90 quid and my favourite shirt by a mile! just need a nobo one for the collection of adidas shirts!
