40mph limit with average speed cameras from 2nd July.

Warninglid junction northbound closed for 7 months from August.

Slaugham junction (all exits/entrances) closed from July except for northbound exit which will be kept open until Warninglid junction reopens.

Two narrow lanes to be kept open in each direction throughout the construction period except for some night-time lane closures.

Finish date scheduled to be September 2014.

Should be fun!

That is really annoying, the slalom down handcross hill at 70mph is the best part of a london-brighton journey.

Will the night time lane closures mean closing it completely in one direction or just down to a single lane ?
Last time it was closed southbound I followed the diversion and it seemed to take me bloody miles; I swear I saw a sign for Truro.

It will be closed completely overnight from Thursday through to 2nd July (according to the signs), but during the main construction phase they are apparently hoping to keep at least one lane open in each direction overnight.

To be fair a lot of these projects do get completed months ahead of schedule. Lets hope this is one of them!

But of course this assumes they won't get delayed by the weather - or rare newts or bats.

Really? It's been 50mph for many months now....

I think that its down to be completed for next year, when we make the Premership to allow all the part time Chelsea fans to get to the new Hickstead park and ride in time to watch the footballing superstars of Brighton and Hove.

That has also been annoying, was hoping they'd remove that after improvement works.
With road safety hat as opposed to fun driving hat on their are some quite poor junctions and slip roads on that stretch. Prefer not to drive it on a sunday when the eponymous drivers blindly join in.

Apparently they've already moved the crested newts ... and mice ... and built a "bridge" for the bats to cross the road (I thought the little buggers flew) ... you really couldn't make it up.

Oh, and then there's the Japanese knotweed to be dug up and buried.

Oh yes, and of course a road to build ...
