He's probably just trying to justify leaving us for them, even with all that they've found their level as a mid-table league 1 side.

Very gracious of him considering.

I also agree with him about Dick.

To justfiy leaving us all he would have to do is compare his wage slips from now and when he was with us and the league table. It's all ifs buts and maybes because he took a gamble going there, appears to be the right one though. He will be enjoying the last few games of the season and planning a play off push next year while were scrapping for our lives and all the while he'll be playing in a brand new (if not the greatest) stadium on a lot more money than he was on here.

In London village.
Comments seem fair enough to me.

Maybe, but I doubt Colchester will ever be much bigger than a League 1 club. Good luck to him for getting a better deal there but there is a bit more to football than a short term wage packet. In 5 years (if he's still at Colchester) he'll be stuck in league 1 in a half empty stadium while we are a championship club playing to a pretty full house. Brighton are a club with much more potential than Colchester.

Wasn't he offered a deal to be the second highest paid player in our history? Not sure why he thought he was worth more than that to be honest.

but in that 5 years he would have earnt a lot more and will be coming towards the later years of his career.

Its easy for fans to think of 5 years as a short time period but to a player thats half of a careers decent earnings.

Yea as I said before it's all ifs and buts. If we are in the Championship when we have Falmer, if Falmer is a full house, and if Colchester are still stuck in league 1 playing to a half empty stadium...who knows. I'm not sure exactly what he was offered but the timing was too late for a player of his importance (we are looking like repeating the same mistake with Whingy this year) and given the money we've spent attempting to replace him we would have saved by offering him another x amount per week (see extortionate wages we were no doubt paying Savage, the Steve Tomson saga, Kevin Thornton loan, Dicker loan, Bangura loan and others I cant even remember no doubt). Not to mention all the disruption those deals have caused to the team.

Maybe we should have offered that much more, but I personally don't think we should be held to ransom by our players. A player like Savage can command that kind of wages, he played in the premier league for most of his career and was a full international with quite a few caps for Wales. Hammond quite simply wasn't worth that much at the time, hindsights a wonderful thing though.

Yea true, it's a fine line really. I personally don't see Hammond as a Bas Savage over inflated ego type character, from that impression I cannot believe that his demands were outrageous given his impact on the club. I dont have a problem with Savages contract but I do have a problem with the fact we decided to pay a proportion of it when he came down here and did f*** all and clearly didn't want to be here, god knows how much that saga cost us! My point being if we had coughed up more for Hammond we would never have been chasing round players like Savage and would have had a much more settled midfield but hey ho, onwards and upwards!

Yeah I agree, wasn't the sort of the thing you expected to see from Hammond, being Brighton born and bred and all that. I think there is a large proportion of that story that evidently hasn't come out. Seems that the Hammond saga was one of the reasons Wilkins lost his job as well.

I actually thought Savage was ok, he broke up play a bit and played simple football. I think his legs had just gone and there is not much you can do after that!

Who knows where we would be with Hammond, could be in a worse position than we are now. Then again we might have got promoted last year!

His comments are fair enough.

Hammond was a decent enough player but he's now plateau'd. He was scoring goals in the Championship and should be playing at that level now, not pissing around with Colchester in League 1. The fact he's where he is now maybe indicates that Knight was correct in thinking his wage demands were excessive and desrves credit in getting £400K for the guy.

Maybe one day he will return and play for us when we're in the Championship at the new home of football Falmer (with some old faces from the past too). Sullivan passes the ball out to Virgo who finds Hammond, Hammond takes the ball forward sees Zamora in space on the left of the area, Hammond crosses the ball, Left foot volley by Zamora GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLL. (Or have I been playing Championship Manger for too long!):goal:

Deano was a decent player, who was underrated by many Albion fans. It was only when he left that we realised what a big player he was for us.

Correct.

I would go as far as saying he could be as good as Lampard at Championship level.

Wilkins was forming his team around him so we had a strong spine for several years to come but uncle Dick new best.
