A second bid from Colchester has now been accepted after the initial £200K bid was rejected. It's up to Hammond now.
I would be amazed if he went there after saying he wanted to play at Championship level - alright he may well do so for the next few months but in August he'll be back in League 1 again!!! :D

i just hope Hammond stays - i can't blame him if he doesn't i can't see that Colchester is a safe bet - Dick should have sorted this ages ago and by that i mean offering him a good deal - it should never ever have come to this

Our deal was on the table for Hammond for ages, you can't force them to sign.

The trouble is that if he does stay we are in danger of getting nothing for him in a few months.
I hope he does stay but only IF he's prepared to sign his new deal today.

He obviously showing us his massive championship ambition .... Colchestser FFS If you're going to claim your leaving because your want Championship football at least pick a club that has a chance of playing there next season. Or maybe there the only team interested which means he isn't as good as he thinks he is or as good as WE think he is.

I don't think this is just a case of Hammond cashing in an ending up in League 1 next season.

Obviously he would probably prefer a bigger club but, with Knight convinced he will either leave now or leave for free in the Summer, it wouldn't surprise me if a certain amount of pressure was being put on Hammond to leave now.

Also, who knows what sort of contract he can get. Might end up with four times more money and a handy little relegation release fee.

How do you KNOW he didn't.

Do you know what deal he's on now? What he was offered? What Col U are offering? What the other players at the club are on? What other League 1 Captains are on?

IF you know all of these things then you can say it wasn't a good deal.

It was never about Championship ambition. This has been clearly explained in previous threads - he/his agent were using this as a way to put a gun to DK's head and to avoid him looking bad if DK called his bluff.

He has been saying "championship aspirations, love the club etc etc" and now we can see it is bullshit. It's all about the money - and why not? This is his job.

Still would be a shame to see him go.

I do know for a fact he could have left to at least one other Champtionship club bigger than Colchester last season but chose not to even talk to them because he is settled in Hastings.

I agree with you Debs................but unfortunately, you are talking DK,s cult following on this board.

That is just ridiculous. It's not a question of blind faith. The point has been well made....you don't know how good the offer was, how well paid Hammond is compared to other BHA players and other club captains of his age. We DO know how Hammond's agent has positioned him and we are now starting to see the reality of it.

By tomorrow this debate will be cleared up, but please don't dismiss these observations as DK ass licking. That's a poor way to hold a debate.

Only on NSC could a contributor be accused of comparing DK to Bill Archer AND be accused of building DK into a cult within a few hours!

If Hammond signs for Colchester he'll get his wish to play in the Championship, for half a season anyway. The fact that the likes of Iwelumo and Cureton upped and left after their one good season should tell him something. New stadium or not Colchester are a small team and will always be. Much as I admire them for what they have achieved Hammond would be better off hanging on until he becomes a free agent.

300k ??

so we have recieved £475k in this window with 355k going out.

does that mean we have 125k to spend today + the 300k that we were prepared to spend before we sold ? (+ whatever budget we had)

COLCHESTER United are in talks with Brighton's Dean Hammond after having a fee accepted by Albion.

The Blues upped their offer to more than £300,000 and hope to sign the attacking midfielder today.

Hammond has refused to sign a new deal at the Withdean and was entitled to leave as a free agent in the summer.

U's boss Geraint Williams is still hopeful of further strengthening his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of today. To date, he has signed Chris Coyne (from Luton) and Phil Ifil (from Tottenham), but has missed out on Southend's Adam Barrett, and Walsall's Daniel Fox.

Meanwhile, Ademola Bankole has been recruited as Colchester United's new goalkeeping coach, while Aidan Davison recuperates from an exploratory operation on his troublesome shoulder.

Former Nigerian keeper Bankole, who featured in the World Cup Finals of 2002, will take Dean Gerken and Mark Cousins under his wing over the next few weeks.

The 38-year-old can draw on bags of experience in English club football with the likes of Crewe, QPR, Brentford and MK Dons.

Davison has been sidelined with a sore shoulder since the 1-0 defeat at Coventry at the end of October. He is currently resting at home.
