Its utterly utterly pointless. My mum never celebrated it, never went trick or treating. This year though i'm dressing up for work - an excuse not to wear my uniform. And after work I'm off to a party.

Pointless excuse for a holiday BUT any holiday is an excuse for a party. For that reason, its awesome.

Something the Americans have nicked from this side of the pond, made it their own and now people want to copy it.

Trick or Treating is just glorified begging and just gives all ready lawless little shits pretty much free reign to go out and cause havoc.

I full expect to return from Peterborough to find my hallways and front door covered in silly string, eggs, flour and god knows what.

Pointless. Blame Asda/Walmart for leading the charge from the US of A on this one. America's obssession has been transplanted over here.

Used to enjoy it when I was younger (nothing wrong with a spot of apple-bobbing - surely that was a fake story I heard on the radio this week about bobbing-related injuries?) but that was well before the organised robbery that is trick-or-treat.

Luckily for me this year i will be at Wembley and will miss all of it.

For the first time in living memory I am actually going to a Halloween party this year; however that's only because it happens to coincide with a friend's birthday. Pointless event, and as the BBC news article points out, it's unlikely to ever get as big here as it is in the US due to its proximity to bonfire night.

Well it might be a fake story; it was repeated in the Daily Mail today.

as a kid in america halloween is fun, when you become a teenager it just becomes an excuse for women to dress up as sluts and party

My kids love it - they're going to a party in the local park and have an excuse to dress up, eat lots of sweet stuff and stay up beyond their normal bedtime - it's a great day for them,

Last year I was in Hong Kong for Halloween and was amazed that it is now "celebrated" there (in a very trashy american way admittedly)
