No, don't do it, trust me, my family own a garage, so I have some knowlage on the subject.
All I will say is that Halfords, kwik Fit and the like are our best customers, as they f*** up so many customers cars, they then come to us to get them repaired properly !

Halfords were voted the worst major company in a recent survey I read in a paper. I must admit I always use a company that only does MOTs and not the repairs so have no incentive to fail it.

That's a no then. First Class Garage (Kemp Town) it is. Only round the corner innit, that's why I asked.

Check the Good Garage scheme website. You can search by postcode to find a local one, it's a bit like check a trade kind of thing.

The problem with company such as Halfords is they offer there "technicians" bonuses for work they do, so when a set of brake pads may have another 3000 miles left in them and one disc is slightly pitted that turns into "You need pads and discs today mate"

I've never had a problem with the one in Brighton, I've used it a few times and they've always been quite honest about what they suggest you need sorting out but isn't vital. The only major work they've done is for stuff I already knew would need replacing (e.g. exhaust and cam belt).

Friend of the Albion, honest and very good, They were Vicentes home shirt sponsor last season, shirt can be seen framed in the waiting room along with other Albion shirts. Lots of players use them, every chance you'll see El-Abd, CMS and others while you're there.

ask for Gary Stevens (real name!).

Recently had my MOT (passed with no issues - car is 2004) and serviced, £130 think it was. Sounds good to me. Not sure I would go there with known problems though.

I have had bad experiences in the past with Halfords and Kwik Fit making up faults to get extra business - I'd say avoid.
The exact quote, via an employees father.

No problems with Halfords but Kwik-Fit are robbers.

This !

EDIT

Thought I should clarify the experience at KF the tyres they quote/advertise on the net are magically not available but alternatively 'we have' !!! (By that time you can't be bothered to trawl around all the others again so)

Will NEVER EVER go back there again.

Guaranteed what they quote on the net will NOT be available !

Until recently I was a senior employee of a local Halfords (shop not Autocentre) and colleagues said that visiting the Autocentres, they felt like the mechanics were trying to shaft them (no pun intended).

Keep it local, keep it personal. I have one guy in Burgess Hill look after my car, with servicing and faults (PS Autos, Sheddingdean Ind Est - very highly recommended) and always use Just MOTs in Burgess Hill or Just MOTs near the Marina.
