Guy Butters' interview in the Sports Argus

Hope people take the trouble to get hold of a copy, a fair and balanced view from inside the camp, good to read

Some very interesting comments. It is a shame more of the behind closed door information doesn't get out to the fans to know what is going on.

McGhee did improve Guy's fitness 2 years back. I suspect that McGhee's exit is the beginning of the end for Guy Butters at the Albion.

The gist of Tank's interview is as follows:

On the sackings: "It was the last thing we were expecting, especially the day before a game. The gaffer came in with Bob but even then we never really got a chance to say thanks. They kept my career going probably a couple of years longer than I thought it would. I owe them a lot and it's sad to see them go. I'll try and meet up for a drink and say thanks."

On McGhee and training: "He opened my eyes to training methods and different things off the pitch and in the gym. He put me on a routine and I felt 100 per cent better for it."

Whether criticism of McGhee was fair: "It's a shame because I think a lot of people got on his back when he had limited resources. I looked at the team out there and you've got 4 or 5 players who have only played a handful of games. It's a difficult situation to manage. I wouldn't like to do it to be honest, with hardly any resources and no ground. For people to start criticising the individual is a bit harsh. But that's football. It's their prerogative. People pay their money and if they want to criticise and moan, that's fair enough. I feel in the circumstances he has done a very good job. People look at results but we know what goes on behind the scenes. I don't think too many people would be able to a better job with those resources but I understand the chairman has got to listen to the fans."

On McGhee falling out with players: "There has been a lot said about the gaffer falling out with individual players. But we know there are two sides to every story. Unfortunately, people were only hearing one side."

On Booker: "The assistant manager's job is to liaise between the players and the manager and he did that superbly."

In conclusion: "I've got used to working with them for a while and it's disappointing when they go. In the end, it's down to what is best for the football club. I'm sure if you asked the gaffer and Bob, they would want what is best for the club."

DW wants to put him and Hinsh through it this week to get them fit and ready for contention asap. :)

Someone has typed up his interview on B/F's.
