From the Argus: Gus on why about seven first-teamers could feasibly be dropped against Hull:

"I can do what ever I like, because I don't think any of the rest can come and knock on the door and say why am I not playing?

"And if you are coming you have got a problem, because we have got plenty of videos and clips and things to show you."

I'm trying to think of the seven players he might think good enough to step in, without any new signings.

Brezovan (I know this will be contentious, but I maintain he is, overall, as good as ankergren, but his confidence with the ball at his feet is his big weakness, and given the way we play this is key, perhaps gus ha worked on him with it, or will try an alternate system to compensate)
Cook (acquitted himself well v liverpool)
Sparrow
Navarro (would he be dropped, or was he already on the bench)
Harley (would he be dropped, or was he already on the bench)
Vincelot (would he be dropped, or was he already on the bench)
Buckley (if fit)
Hoskins (if fit)

I agree, anything upto 7 starters need to be dropped long term if we want to get out of this league, but it seems like a crazy idea to do it right now unless he things the development squad is championship standard, because there isn't a whole lot of depth to this squad.

I think Gus is merely letting it be known that some players are going to be lucky to play against Hull and need to convince him that they have what it takes at this level.

Of course he hasn't got cover for all of them, being realistic, but with points on the board I wouldn't be surprised if there are some interesting omissions on Saturday while Gus assesses some of the fringe players.

He's clearly not going to make wholesale changes

He's just saying that there's only a handful of players who have done enough recently to deserve a starting place.

That doesn't mean someone who hasn't been on it will be replaced by someone from the development squad!

Having now read the article, I see what you mean. I don't think you can rule out several changes, though. I guess it just depends on how many changes are needed for it to be considered 'wholesale changes'. Two weeks since the last game would give plenty of time to work on things in training with a new line up, if he wants to change 3, 4 or more players.

For those interested, full article:
Vicente will make his first home start for Albion against Hull at The Amex on Saturday (5.30pm).

Boss Gus Poyet has confirmed the Spaniard is a certain starter following his goalscoring full debut in the 3-1 defeat at Ipswich 12 days ago.

Poyet said: "There are maybe two or three players that deserve to play right now and Vicente is one of them.

"He did what we wanted him to do in defence at Ipswich and he made a difference on the ball, so he is going to play on Saturday that's for sure.

"There are another two or three, I'm not going to give you the names, that deserve to play.

"The rest? I can do what ever I like, because I don't think any of the rest can come and knock on the door and say why am I not playing?

"And if you are coming you have got a problem, because we have got plenty of videos and clips and things to show you."

Will Buckley will be missing against Hull for the ninth time in 14 matches as he continues his recovery from a recurrence of hamstring trouble. See tomorrow's Argus for the full story.

He's clearly not very happy.

No, and it's been dragging on for a while this. At some point he need to stop slating the players, and start building their confidence back up me thinks.

I'm guessing that along with Vicente, the 2 or 3 that he mentions that deserve to play are Noone, CMS and Bridcutt.

So changes possible anywhere else !
