Gus getting a hammering on talkSPORT

The great thing about democracy is that the majority view prevails. The great failure of democracy is that the majority rule prevails. Go back in time the prevailing view was that the earth was flat and a person that said it was round would be burnt as a heretic. Why do I recognise how this happened when listening to Talk Sport. At times I think there should be an intelligence test before a person is allowed to stand for election or vote. But then I sadly accept that unfortunately, even dumb people should be allowed their opinion, even if it is ill thought out and is in essence just following the prevailing view. So as the crowd has decided that Gus's comments are racist then he should of course face trial by ducking stool.

A black guy on george galloway show just now saying that there are double standards in england against white people. A black youth said to a black businessman (during london riots) if you were white i'd rob you blind. This youth wasn't punished for this racism, but if that was a white youth saying that he'd be banged up for racism.

Apparently Suarez called Evra a 'French ****' according to reports. Struggling to argue with this at the moment. Racist ? Well he is French and he does play for Utd.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding on whats for dinner.

Give me a constitutional republic anyday.

Those slagging off Talk Sport and their 100's of listeners are aware that the interview that has sparked this outrage was on Talk Sport aren't you? So yes, I would say it can have an influence. And as has already been said those slagging it off seem to know a lot about it so must listen quite a bit.

I like Talk Sport, its easy listening and they talk about something I love all day, sport. If its too low brow for you stick to Radio 4.

In fairness to Adrian Durham he is regularly positive about the Albion. When CMS joined he was actually quite good about it (I would not have been happy if I was Posh), he criticised those that said it was about money like Fat Sam as he knew that was not that important to CMS, it was Gus and our ambition. Also last season he regulalry praised us and took the piss out of the Saints fans who thought they had a divine right to win the league.

His views on air this afternoon have been matched by every presenter and to be honest, most people. We love Gus but he cocked up today and deserves a bit of a bashing.

sorry but his show is naff...the 2 shows that i listened to weren't albion related and i listened to the earlier interview from there website..nothing wrong with radio 4...but i tend to listen to 5 and 2...durham just seems to sum up his argument by saying rubbish to most things..treats callers who don't agree with him poorly and seems as thick as 2 short planks..not that i would hold that against him..but hey glad u like the show..i wouldn't want him unemployed

For me definately one of the bigger gobshites in football. Perhaps he's trying to raise his profile or something but this has f*** all to do with him. I remember last season when he complained bitterly just coz our rearranged fixture away to Plymouth was apparently at the wrong time, even though we were annoyed in the first place that the fixture was moved at all - and Albion were already champions. Again, nothing to do with him.

I'm pleased our manager has miles more dignity than your oil bag foreign manager

Piss off you Southampton Knobber. You sound like a daft racist yourself with your foreign manager bile.

Meopham, Kent.
Exactly. Pre-meeting for Durham/Gough show.

Producer "So for this afternoon's show Adrian is going to be against and you're going to be pro Darren. Okay?"
Durham: "Do I have to? I'm always against."
Producer: "Okay, okay. Darren, you okay being 'against' for this show?"
Darren: "Err against what?"
Producer: "Oh yes, sorry, today's it's (insert hot topic here)"

Absolutely. If it was anything else, then what are the chances of the two presenters ALWAYS disagreeing on everything?

The hard part for them is keeping up with what their own views are, and every now and again you get a caller pointing out a contradiction with a previous view. There are times you can almost hear them wanting to say "yeah, but I didn't REALLY think that, I just had to oppose the co-presenters view. That IS my job!"

In my own strange world
talkSPORT biggest bunch of hypocrites going,I remember after Keys and Grey were suspended by Sky for their 'sexist' comments, the Radio station devoted days of air-time putting a metaphorical boot in to the pair of them,Adrian Durham especially vitriolic in his condemnation, and then who rock up a couple of months later as so -called star presenters? Keys and Grey of course and suddenly everything is forgotten and they are all best mates.I rang the show yesterday to defend Gus,not that I necessarily agree with what he said, but to lay into Durham and 'Goughie' for the total selective moral high ground they take and the utter drivel they spout, but,of course their researcher refused to let me go on air. It's just lazy journalism on their part and too scared to speak to anyone keen to take the fight to them.

I'm pretty sure Gus is Suarez's mentor and therefore it has everything to do with him

I usually think Poyet can do no wrong, but he's perilously close to being on the same side of this argument as Blatter. Being on the same side as Blatter on any given issue usually means you're wrong (and yes, I know Gus has had a few blunt words to say about Blatter in the past, but on this issue, I just can't shake the feeling that his comments and Blatter's suggestion that it's no big deal are too close for comfort).

However I think he was just sticking up for his compatriot and friend, rather than taking on board the wider issues involved. It's a pity some people are trying to claim this means he's racist, but that's the British media for you.

Personally I think he's no where near Blatter. Poyet less than eloquently stated that the guy isn't racist, what he said was not considered racist in his own country, nor do his own people consider it to be racist. He then said if the British people view it as racist then give him a few months and he'll learn.

I wish people wouldn't get sucked into an issue because the press and worse the gutter press Talksport is one of them (and stupid Ferguson) say that it is.

Are you saying that with a constitutional republic we would all lose the right to vote? Think you have it a bit mixed up!

Hi Drew

No that is not what I am saying. In a constitutional republic people still vote for their representitives.

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine."

- Thomas Jefferson

In a democracy if the will of the majority is that you have no rights, then you have no rights. Sorry.

In a constitutional republic, it can be the will of 99% of the people that you have no rights, but you still do.
