Bit of musical trivia: I do believe the theme song was written by Phil Coulter and Bill Martin. They wrote a stream of 60s/70s hits: Puppet on a String, Congratulations and Shang-a-Lang spring to mind. And despite the fact that one was Scottish and one was Irish (can't remember which was which), they also wrote Back Home for the 1970 England World Cup squad!

Phil Coulter was the Irish one.
I didn't like him, on the Irish version of x Factor he smashed up the guitar of a guy in auditions because he didn't like the way he was playing. I'd have smashed his face in there and then.
