Goalkeeper signs!
Albion boss Russell Slade has made his fifth summer signing, completing the signing of former Motherwell goalkeeper Graeme Smith on a Bosman free transfer.
The 26-year-old Edinburgh-born stopper joins Albion on a two-year deal, having spent the last four years at Fir Park, where he made just short of 150 appearances for the Steelmen.
Smith linked up with the squad today, and Slade said, "Graeme comes with a good pedigree. He has been regular first choice for Motherwell in the SPL over the past two seasons, and featured in their Uefa Cup campaign last season.
"He has represented Scotland at B level and certainly has a good presence at over six foot tall. Alongside Michel Kuipers we now have ample experience in the goalkeeping department for the new season."
Slade also revealed the part chief scout Barry Lloyd played in capturing Smith. "He comes with a strong recommendation from Barry, who has been tracking Graeme for several months now, having watched him on a number of ocassions last season."
Standing 6ft 1ins tall, Smith was called up for Scotland squad on two occasions, but is yet to win an international cap. However, he played Scottish B international side in the 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland in November 2007.
So thats the defence & midfield sorted in he main.
Just need a striker now, if Murray stays we may not even need that.
Still think we're short another winger plus another striker regardless whether Murray stays or goes IMO.
Almost there though, nice to have the squad nearly sorted by the 1st of July!
I bloody well have not. Thank you very much.
Signed
Graham Smith
