Potter's old club in Sweden, Östersunds FK (I used the "O" in the title so that NSC wont collapse..), is having a severe financial crisis and its not certain they can finish the season if they cant find money somehow.

Now Graham Potter along with Billy Reid, Björn Hamberg and Kyle Macaulay have made a "big donation" in order to save the club. No sum has been mentioned but sources say £400 000, which is more than half the money needed to keep the club floating until they are able to sell players in the January transfer window.

£400k could be a handful of euros/ dollars pretty soon. I've just paid £675 for the same thing that cost £440 5 years ago . . .from the US.

Hardly surprising to anyone that's watched Swedish football. The owner threw money at the club in the 4th division and they don't get big crowds. It was always going to end in tears.

There's allegedly been a lot of financial chicanery going on at that club, including the bogus sale of a restaurant that falsely gave the club positive equity, whilst still being listed as an asset. The former chairman Daniel Kindberg is currently on trial accused of funnelling millions of Kroner in taxpayers money into the club via a housing corporation for which he was also the CEO.

Can understand it tho. It's where they got their start in management and would like to repay out of the benefits from this.

Kindberg pulled some absolute ridiculousness, after their star player (and Iranian international) Saman Ghoddos signed with a Spanish team, Ostersund and Kindberg blew up and apparently convinced Saman to sign with a French team so that Ostersund would get a bigger bid/signing fee. Saman's agent is a good friend of Kindberg (never a good thing) so encouraged him to do it. Saman signs the other contract and then the Spanish club sued for breach of contract. Now Saman is fined 4 million euros and banned for (I think) 3 months. He is appealing and says that the penalty should be on Ostersund, not him. If the court agrees, Ostersund will be in a bigger black hole. I don't think Potter (or anyone) should be throwing money into this pit.

Exchange rates change all the time, nothing new here. I remember getting 2 and half US dollars to the pound, crashed right down while in the EU.

"We heard about the problems in the club. We talked about it in the group and the first reaction is that you get a bit disappointed, frustrated and angry about how they got in this situation after we left. With Europa League and the fine group of players they had then. It feels a bit sad they have got in to this crisis."

"The club means a lot to us. Some of the memories from there will be with us for the rest of our lives. It was our home for a lot of years and we love the city. Even if we are disappoined, we in the end wanted to help the club out."

From what I've read about the achievements of Potter and his staff in raising Ostersunds from obscurity to Europe, any debt is owed to them, not by them.

I think a NSC contribution would be nice, maybe not a saviour, but let's make a gesture... if someone can publish the bank details or web link, I'm in for Twenty... we were there once .. whatever the circs.

What's the reputation of the previous Ostersund owners these days in Sweden? What was it, faked a load of invoices? Interesting tale by the sounds of it. Oddly it rarely gets a mention over here.
