But Man City didn't actually sack Tevez did they. I think he just went AWOL for a while, till he was eventually sold to Juventus.
No, but the subject of his right to play came up. I don't think they could even dump him in the reserves.

Can't see how ANY player can have a "right to play" built into his contract. You've got to earn your place, just like in any team sport.

I seem to remember seeing pictures of him mincing around a golf course in Argentina during the season, still on full salary, while City were busily stuffing up another Champions League campaign.

It wasn't part of his contract, and I don't mean his right to play for City, I mean his right to do his trade for someone. Man City (manager) said he'd never play for them again, and preventing his from continuing his trade was seen as unlawful.
