Have just been cleared to pick up a GPS/Satnav for work following a hopelessly unprofessional stand-in whilst I was away!

So - anyone got a good option, price not a snag, they've given me a government credit card!

Or buy 1 get 2 free.....

Get the cheapest one you can, it's called an AtoZ. The government waste enough money as it is.

Looks like I will be getting a Tom Tom 300. Thanks for the advice, got a demo from someone that owns one and it's pretty impressive. As I will be doing even more miles than I do now, it's becoming a necessary tool of the job. Would have been OK sharing the taskings with the "professional" drivers here if they hadn't:

a. Failed to turn up to a collection of a fairly senior passenger.
b. Turned up with no route plan.
c. Turned up with no map in their vehicle.
d. Failed to supply contact details, etc, so that they could be traced.
e. Invented a traffic accident which "delayed" them!

Oh to be a highly paid taxi driver. In fact, that should be "poorly" paid taxi driver, as I am sure they get more than I do - and they get bloody tips!

Get the panasonic CNDV-2300 - it is the dogs bollocks. i do 40000 miles a year with company and have driven with some shite ones but this is best.

if you choose navman or tom tom they rely soley on the use of GPS to track you so in some cases (ie thunderstorms) they are crap. the panasonic ones use a dvd map aswell as satalites to help track you.

I've got a Tom Tom 300. MOst of the time very good, but not infallible. Best to use it in conjunction with some common sense and the road signs - then you won't go far wrong. Have been taken to a couple of dead ends though, and down one very rough country road.

Not that it matters too much. Just turn around, and it'll find a new route.

Just remember that if you are driving in London take a map with you as well because at the worst possible moment the satnav will lose the satellite signal and you'll be left up shit street.

Shit street, isnt that just off the the Bayswater Road?
