The goverment does have the power too extend licensing hours nationwide for special occasions.It did that for the royal wedding and Diamond jubilee, but says it won't do that for the football.
The British pub and beer association are very angry,they say that could mean lost revenue of £20,000,000.
They are appealing against the decision.

My local will stick two fingers up at the bloody goverment and show the England matches.
If the plod decide to uphold the Tory tosses decision then theyre have a bloody class war on their hands.

Won't make any difference to most. I've already applied for, and will be granted temporary entertainment licenses from my local authority.

It's not lost revenue, if it was never going to be part of their normal cash flows anyway. Just their wild estimate of the extra take they guess might have been made from the extension.

This will only impact one England game, the one Vs Italy, which kicks off at 11pm. Most pubs in Brighton have a late licence on Saturday nights anyway. Can't see this being an issue to be honest.

Not as simple as that! Very few local authorities will grant a 24 hour premises licence. Westminster has a couple, but they are very rare. The Police also have a say.

They will all be on terrestrial television so no need to go to the pub anyway.

None of the big games are being show at 11pm (other than England Vs Italy), due to the impact on advertising in Europe.
