Other way around. All the kids and yoofs sing 'Cup' around us whilst the wrinklies all 'Fall'.

Indeed, most of them there John Grant clones at Forest were 'Cup'.

Well, I've been singing 'Stand or Fall' for a while now, and Junior Orange is gradually learning the lyrics too... must work on Littlest - could be tricky though as she's still learning to talk!

Oh, that's a bit depressing. 'Cup' is crap in comparison.

Is the up bit about travelling North, or is it about moving up the league? If it's the latter we'd better hope they add another tier on top of the Prem soon, or we could go with stand or fall, not sure which is easiest at this stage.

For me it's important to sing the Stand or Fall line. GOSBTS is such a unique anthem. It represents pride in our county and pays homage to those young Sussex men who marched off to war in 1914. June 30th this year is the 100th anniversary of the battle of the boars head where so many of those young men died. They sang this song on their way to the front and so I sing it for them, for Sussex and for Brighton and Hove Albion, the club I love and I sing it with pride, passion and as loudly as I possibly can. It's about the fellowship of man, of loyalty and about looking out for your mates whatever battles lay in front of you. It's about being together and it makes me emotional every time I sing it as the team walks out.

Going up to win the cup wasn't right, in any case. When it was changed it was, 'And we're going up and we'll win the cup' etc.

It was changed for the trip to Wembley for the 83 Cup Final to "We're going up TO win the cup". Prior to that it was always "We're going up AND we'll win the cup". Much better - applies to all games!

Stand and Fall for me now, though.

There is no reason why it can't be sung like Southampton and Spurs sing "oh when the saint/spurs" as it should be sung slowly and loudly. Yes it can finish with the goddlegook we currently have but I cannot see it getting though the deaf ears of 80% of our fans.

'Stand or fall.'

Because they're the words.

As for the irritants directly in front of me who STILL do the nurr, nurr, nur-nurr stuff, learn the words. Just learn the words. It really isn't difficult.

Always Stand or Fall in H Block, WSU. And we also have to put up with Hamilton singing verse two on his own, at the top of his voice, every game, at the start of the second half.

Quite stirring, as it happens.

Taking a *slight* liberty with the last 2 lines of the 1st verse so we can cut to the chase and not make it overly long...I'd bloody LOVE to hear the whole stadium ringing this out

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring my boys
And take the time from me
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea

ALL...TOGETHER...NOW......

Good old Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the sea
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea

Fundamentally, it's our song. no other club sings it, or uses the tune in any song. It's ours, it's our heritage. The club itself have used the tune for years as the team runs out onto the pitch. Norman Wisdom, jumpers for goalposts, stand or fall.

'Stand or Fall'. Those are the words. Hairs on the neck stuff.

I'm not sure when it started and why the words were changed. Didn't Norman start it ? Perhaps not, the other words seem altered by the crowd.
