Scotland may hold a referendum before 2012 on becoming independent from the rest of Great Britain. Politics affects football too.

B of F is spot on. Football should NOT be an olympic sport. Neither should boxing.
When the PINNACLE prize of any sport is not an Olympic Gold, then there's no point including it.

The Olympics are the thin end of the wedge as FIFA want GB to enter a team in the World Cup not England Scotland Wales and Ireland independantly plus at the moment they each have a vote but wouldnt as GB or UK. Well done the jocks we will all benefit from their decision.

Wouldn't we have to have Welsh in our team though [ I realise no one would make the team, but they would still be a part, right?]

Sod that.

England & Northern Ireland, it should be.

Lafferty upfront, scary stuff.

I think the IOC would have extreme difficulty stopping Ireland entering a team!

Although I think they olympic council here weren't intending to enter one anyway...

Good on the scots.

Football shouldn't be anywhere near the games. There is already a massive World event and all it will do (especially in this country) is that all the limelight off the other sports.

That's what's the games are good for. They give coverage to our real world class stars, most of which very few people have heard of.

There is already pressure behind the scenes from other European nations, who would like us to has a GB team.

This will suit their needs. It will inevitably be full of English players and they'll be two less votes at the table who usually vote as one.

lets see now, why would the Scots agree to a GB football team when it would consist of a token couple of Scots and Welsh in the squad who might get an ocassional run out?

its a stupid acedemic debate anyway, the Olympics is supposed to be amatuer, so pro sports or sports persons shouldnt be included anyway.

That's nothing to do with it. The scots are thinking of the bigger issue, shame our FA isn't.

Or perhaps that's what they want ? A GB football team.

Hardly academic because the rules about amateurs don't exist anymore.

Would we EVER have allowed a thread title like that if he HAD scored?

Let us not forget he put us in the lead in the FA Cup final so he's still a hero in my book.

Agreed.
