Albion cool on Arismendi From The Argus)
Albion admit they do not expect to bring back Diego Arismendi for a second stint.
But they reckon new boys Agustin Battipiedi and Cristian Baz could be better equipped than the Uruguayan to adapt to League One football.
Arismendi struggled to make an impression when on loan from Stoke towards the end of last season and saw his campaign end early with an unfortunate red card at MK Dons.
Gus Poyet remains interested in former loanees Kazenga LuaLua (Newcastle), Ashley Barnes (Plymouth) and Lee Hendrie (free agent).
But the Albion boss admitted: “Diego is almost definitely a No.
“LuaLua, Barnes and Hendrie are still possible. Gavin Hoyte is difficult.
“The problem with Diego is he hasn’t played many games here to get the pace of the game. And then there are the wages.”
Poyet insists Battipiedi is a very different type of midfielder to Arismendi.
Assistant manager Mauricio Taricco also believes his fellow Argentinians could be well equipped to adapt to life in Sussex.
Battipiedi has the advantage of speaking decent English having attended a school which puts a big emphasis on the language.
Taricco said: “I think they have got a little bit different qualities to Diego. We were looking for more dynamic players to adapt to this league and I think they have got it.
“Of course we have to wait and see. They need to train and get fitter and tart playing games.
“But they are clever boys. They come from a very difficult league. It's third division but it's very tough.
“I think they will be all right.”
Ex-Albion skipper Adam Virgo is training with Yeovil, where he links up with his former Withdean team-mate Nathan Jones, now assistant manager at Huish Park.
Meanwhile tickets for pre-season fixtures versus Burgess Hill and Aberdeen are already on sale.
Albion have cut prices to £10 for adults and £5 for seniors and under-16s for the visit of Mark McGhee’s Aberdeen side on Saturday, July 31.
Admission to the game at Burgess Hill next Saturday will cost £8 for adults and £5 for concessions in advance, rising to £12 and £8 on the day.
