who fancies getting excited about another expensive benfica striker, who we also have absolutely no chance of signing?

certainly wouldn't mind him though...

I think people need to readjust their view of us, both off and on this board.

Traditionally there was no hope of signing a player like that but things change. We’re now a decent top half premiership side, playing attractive football, beating teams in the big 6 in their own back yards and yes, that dream of European football could become a reality.

We have a lot going for us as a club.

Jeeez.

How good would we be with him leading the line with Welbz and Tross.

Looking at him and then Undav, big big difference. Even in his cameo at Arsenal, I wasn't impressed with his work rate.

IF Tony Bloom is prepared to shell out £40m plus for the player, almost double our highest transfer fee paid so far.

We will be far from the only club in for him, so that figure could well rise substantially if it degenerates into a bidding war, and no way will Tony be persuaded to get involved with that.

sorry to be a pendant but there's something like £5 million differece between £40 million and €40 million. could easily see us managing something like €32 (£28) million up front rising to €40 (£35) million with add-ons. not that I could see us getting involved in a bidding war, but I'm pretty sure us and brentford (possibly southampton too) are the only team yet to exceed a £25 million fee, that's definitely something that could change at some point for the right player

We have indeed - including not paying the £100K a week that £40M strikers would expect to be offered. And I'll be perfectly happy if we never do .....................

My view is that Tony will spend upwards of 40mil, if it's for the right player, ie they have potential and resale value and he'll hope the double his money with a sale to a top 6.

Yes, the wages would be well above our current top wage earner, but again, pragmatically he'll know that strikers can command that.

So I wouldn't rule it out. But it will have to be for the right player. Tony will be very happy to say "no deal"

I agree. But this becomes more likely if we flog Tross for £50m+ in January. We simply need his goals this season. Without him, we’d need an exceptional goal scorer to stay in the top 10 because I can’t see any other player in our squad replacing his goal count or shooting prowess.

Guess one day the news that we are chasing someone whose transfer fee and wages are way beyond what we believe TB will tolerate will materialise into it actually happening, but keep trying. IMO, Lord Lucan riding in on Shergar is more likely.
