I was only young...but I must say, I really miss the most un-hygenic burgers in the world.

Right next to the toilets at the back of the north stand........were my favorite burgers in the world.

They tasted lovely...properly mincey!!!

Anyone remember them?

Sorry to change the subject but does anyone else remember the guy that used to go round at half time in the South stand at Withdean with a trolly of soup?! It must have been about 2000-2001.
His soup was class. WE WANT HIM BACK:jester:

the old boy that used to walk round selling the Argus, or even further back -those sky blue disabled cars that were allowed to park in the south west corner !

I remember them. I also recall the players used to give the disabled mob easter eggs at the closest game to Easter.

I still have never seen the Goldstone as it is now and I live in Hove.

Way out west
People on the East Terrace moaning constantly, in the time I stood there before graduating to the North Stand, I am sure they still exist...somewhere!

This is a very sad thread. Strolling over Hove Rec with great anticipation and hearing the tannoy as you got to the pelican crossing on old Shoreham Road.

The other games being played on the same day used to listed in the match programme as A, B, C, D...........Z and the same letters were painted on the wall that surrounded the pitch in front of the East Terrace (and West Stand?). Early into the second half someone used to go round with a set of numbers and prop them up next to the letters so we had the half-time scores. Of course, moving them around was too great an opportunity to miss for the youngters standing by the wall - the trick used to be to do this before the guy had got to 'Z' so that when he looked back to check he'd got them all correct he'd have to return and do some again. Happy days!

We always used to turning into Old Shoreham Road after parking the car at the dog track car park. And then guessed what the crowd might be like based on the view of the East stand as it filled up.

In the shadow of Seaford Head
Fred also use to sell the Argus outside Brighton, Plumpton and Fontwell races. My dad had known him from the Goldstone for years and Fred used to let him and his mates into these racecourses via the staff entrance for the price of a pint or two.

He also sold the Argus at the County Ground and was veru much liked there as well. He did a couple of seasons at Withdean if I remember correctly.

Whistling Woody Allen in the West Stand

Ha ha, yes. He used to read his programme about 2 inches from his eyes whilst gurning.

He still goes....saw him shivering outside Withdean a few weeks back.

The smell of stale tobacco on the terraces.

The dads bringing milk crates for their kids to stand on.

Looking around the North Stand to see if any away fans werein ther and were up for a rumble.

Evening games stepping up to the top of the terrace to see Gods hallowed turf resplendently green under the floodlights.

Hadlee's girlfriend offering toffees just as we were about score!

Hadlee's mate from Croydon who we dissed. Turned out (much into the future) to be a close friend of my wife's family
