...a light aeroplane flying over the ground before a game with Man City, trailing a banner with words to the effect of "Seagulls bomb City"?

I've always wondered who organised it, as they didn't seem to be selling anything!

I can't remember anything about the game and my reference tomes aren't with me.

What was the Keith Cuss 'header'?

Keith Cuss was a Brighton ball 'boy' who, according to City, took too long returning the ball when it went out of play for a City throw late in the game when we were leading.

He was later relieved of his duties.

AAAHHHH yes I heard about that. Instead of catching it, didn't he head it into the North Stand?

Vague memories. And still no 'plane relief...

Don't remember the year but do remember that Keith Cuss was 41 when it happened. He used to patrol the West Stand touchline and on this occasion, as the ball flew towards him, he helped it on its way into the crowd, with a deft back-header.
After serving the club for a number of seasons, he was promptly sacked.

It wasn't so much that he took too long, more that when the ball came towards him (this was in the days of one ball per match), rather than catch and return it, he headed it backwards into the West Terrace

Just read the ' Harty ' article and there was no way that Keith Cuss tried to duck out of the way of the ball. It was clearly a deliberate header and ( some may say ) an act of time-wasting.
