I think the game which we boycotted and then managed to storm the East Stand gates to get in for free was, if not a highlight, an important part of the protest.

V Mansfield
I was there and definitely a highlight, but I do remember when we were just going onto the terrace one lad came out of the toilet with blood on his face, unfortunately he had climbed the wall just before we stormed the gate and must have fallen off the wall……..there was an easy way and a hard way to get in.

But my favourite memory from the Goldstone has to be walking from the station, getting up to the church steps, buying a programme and a Gulls Eye and peering round the corner to see how full the North Stand was getting.

One for the also rans.

Ian Chapman's equalizer v Bournemouth on a biblically wet night.

Another game against Bournemouth although a bit earlier. 1988 we lost our first game back in the 2nd tier to Bournemouth and they scored what to this day I still consider to be the best goal I've ever seen live. I remember thinking we'll never get a point here if everyone is this good. I'd probably hate to see it now and be massively disappointed but in my mind it was insane.

Beating Cardiff 6-0 or was it 5-0 on a boxing day stood in the South Stand absolutely pissed and we scored with a balloon as well.(Why that is in my memory I've no idea )

Alex Dawson doing his diving headers.

Hans Kraay jumping in front of the keeper every corner.

Gerry Ryan's goal against Man City

Seeing Peter Ward in his prime.

Eric Steele doing the Groucho Marx to the North Stand as he ran towards us.

Getting pulled through the turnstile for the Doncaster game as I didn't have a ticket and running into the North Stand to get away from the stewards, it worked.

So many more but the one below is the best one for me.

Taking my two small lads to the last evening game at the ground where we beat Barnet 1-0.
They've been hooked ever since.
That's the best and everlasting memory the Goldstone gave me.

Bobby Smith's debut vs. Barrow and 2 goals.
Wally Gould flying down the right wing.
Kit Napier's corner kicks.
Brian Clough as manager. Hard to believe at the time.
0-4 vs. Walton & Hersham and 2-8 vs. Bristol Rovers IN THE SAME WEEK under manager Clough. Still feel shudders at the names Warboys and Bannister.
Hearing about cheats McMenemy (Southampton) and Burkinshaw (Tottenham) from the terraces.
Mullery applauding the players off after a great performance and sending them back out in the rain after a very short half-time of a not great one.
Ward, Horton and Lawrenson in their prime.
Resigned to defeat vs. Liverpool and somehow not losing.

And lots, lots more, much of it recalled by others on this great thread.

I only got 9 seasons at the Goldstone and most of those were, if we're being honest, pretty shit but reading this thread has made me realise there's still a treasure trove of games that can be considered form those years. To those not already mentioned I'd like to add the Orient 4-4 draw, the mansfield boycott/break in, Crawley in the Cup, Leicester in the league cup(might just be me on that one but I loved it) and my favourite ever defeat - 5-3 to Cardiff (from 1 up we collapsed like the england top/middle/lower order to 1-5 down before a stirring semi come back).

Similar experience to you and thanks for reminding me of some of my other favs!

That Cardiff game was great in a terrible way - deluge, stood on East Terrace. Everyone playing like puddings except Kurt Nogan who played the on his own in the second half.
Leicester City - sat in the south stand with a couple of guys from school who didn't normally come. Lured by the smell of a Premier League team I expect. Nogan turned a close ranger in right in front of us and then in the second leg Stuart Monday scored from an adjacent post code whilst Jimmy Case got sent off
Orient 4-4 - who could ever forget that if they were there?
Crawley in the cup - incredible to see 18,000 my highest Albion home attendance at the time and a lovely 5-0 drubbing.
Man United in the Cup for David Beckham's first ever appearance. Remember again a wonderful evening atmosphere and a closely fought game
Pompey in the cup - 1-0 Matthew Edwards, another amazing turn out to me at that age. Watching them storm the East Terrace. Probably more than the reported 17,000 in that day

She was a shambles by the end but she was our shambles and I still miss her despite the Amex's obvious superiority.

Promotion game against Sheffield Wednesday in May 1977. Full house, 3-2 win to get promoted. First time I had ever seen a pitch invasion like it.

i was in the northstand that time. we tried to get onto the pitch before the final whistle. great game and atmosphere.

Anyone remember 1980 v Ipswich who were riding high as League leaders at the time with Bobby Robson as manager? They had some team then and we managed a 1-0 win. Too young to remember much about the game, but I do remember to this day the feeling of being the unfancied team who beat the leaders.
