poorly managed and motivated. Sven tried to play them in an unfamiliar Italian/continental style, McClaren simply couldnt work out the right tactics, though he looked like he sussed it against Russia and did try to do somthing different. niether presented a plan B to the team for when things went wrong, so the players default to hoof. For the number of captains, there's often a lack of leadership when its going wrong too, the captain being a press spokesman rather than the leader on the pitch. The likes of Adams and Shearer are missed.
Over-hyped load of old twoddle, pure and simple. We have a decent 1st 11 and then after that a long line of mediocre hoofers.
Things I don’t go along with….
1. ‘McClaren is a f*cking c$nt, he lost it for us.’
Not really. He’s no genius, but he shouldn’t need to be to beat Macadonia at home, for godssake. He put out, more or less, the strongest side and they came up short because they weren’t good enough.
2. ‘Look at the wonderful rugby players, god bless them. Our footballers just don’t have passion.
This really is tired old bollocks. Of course the England footballers care and are now hurting badly. Chest thumping is simply not enough against international opposition if you can’t beat the first man from any set plays.
3. Can’t be bothered to think of a 3rd. I look silly now after making a point ‘1’ and point ‘2’.
In short, we aren’t good enough. As someone wrote in the build up to the game (Martin Samuel?) he’d only put Gerrard in a World X1. And I think that’s being generous.
