Strange that so many of us have for weeks been envisaging the scenario that was played out today, but were jeered down.

Worrying that the powers that be seemed less concerned.

Anyway, first match so let's hope it will be sorted and that the result v Cheltenham on Tuesday doesn't mirror Newport last year.

Do you live in Bangkok? How often do you go to the Amex? We have got to the play offs for the last two seasons, we are the most watched side in this division, we arent even the most expensive season tickets, and cos we have lost the FIRST game of the season, you are panicking like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. And, by the way WE haven't invested any money in our infrastructure, Tony Bloom has.

He's not wrong though.

I do not live in Bangkok no, please do not take too much time in deciphering the location of my alias 'murraymints4brighton' as they are terribly out of date. I have had a season ticket for a good while now and can appreciate the bad times and good. Please do not patronise me. I am not panicking, I laughed at the fact I heard shouts of 'get your check book out' and one or two boos today. I have gone into this season thinking we are going to finish mid table and I would largely accept that.

What I don't accept is the club going backwards on the pitch. We have sold our best players, the ones you want to go and watch and replaced them with players not in the same ilk. That is the clear problem.

Can't argue with that (with the exception of Stockdale, of course).

I know Ulloa wanted to play in the Premier League so probably would have gone anyway, but I have to question the people on here celebrating the fact that we are getting £8-£10m for him. The real cost is that we have lost a proven quality striker, who is going to be very, very difficult to replace. How much would we get if we were promoted? A helluva lot more than £10m. Selling Ulloa could make all the difference.

I agree, Stockdale is an improvement.

If we are not getting players in until transfer deadline day, why didn't we delay the selling of Leo until the end of the window as well ? ???

The players you speak of are Ulloa Bridcutt, Upson and Barnes I take it? All of them wanted to go , except, maybe Barnes, but I don't think anyone is certain of that either way. We have bought in Toko,an unknown quantity, O'Grady, for Barnes, Hughes, like for like for Upson, and Stockwell. We still have three weeks ish to make more signings, lets just wait and see. The players who have left have all gone to better(supposedly) clubs, and who can blame them if they get to play in the prem every week.

Just got home, via a few Brighton hostelries. Very disappointed with the performance today. Chicksen may as well be sold, why play a RB as a LB ? Couple of times Calderon had a chance to cross a ball in he couldn't as it was on his left foot. Square pegs and round holes. Never a threat going forward, bar a 5min spell in 2nd half, when we were already down to 10 men. We created no clear cut chances in the first 45 mins. Play a winger as a winger ffs, not an inside forward. We have 2 decent wingers in KLL and Buckley if they are selected and told to play on the wing. COG was neat and tidy but is no Ulloa. Ince looked good, and the defence/GK was OK. Their goal looked like a cross that got lucky from where I was in the North, but we certainly didn't deserve more than a draw out of today. Speaking to a SW fan in a pub near the station after and he said they were disappointed with how bad we were. How embarrassing. The Ulloa money really needs to be spent, and soon, judging from what I saw today.

What would the difference be Ulloa could just have done a Bridcutt and not been in the right mind to play

Neither here nor there
I can tolerate the odd below-par performance. They happen even in the best of times.

Today was a bit different. We seemed to have lost our style and rhythm altogether. I couldn't see what our formation or game plan was meant to be. We looked like the ultimate generic mid-table Championship team rather than the classy Brighton team that has won admirers (if not promotion) in recent seasons.

Early days but we look four or five players away from being play-off contenders.

A bit worried about our midfield now, no Crofts for 3 games, no STEPHENS back soon, Agustein looking poor, JFC not in great form & TOKO NZUZI untried
And how poor have CMS & Buckley been in training for Fenelon & O'GRADY to start today

Not moaning though just an observation :)

Agree completely. With Fenelon & O'Grady up front we could go the whole way through August without scoring. One shot on goal at home on the opening day of the season against Wednesday who were very average, is unacceptable. Hopefully a confidence scoring rout against Cheltenham will do wonders. Wouldn't put any dish on it!

Starting with Buckley, CMS and our only fit recognised left back on the bench, playing Fenelon, putting Walton on the bench, I looked at today's team and wondered if Hyypia was trying to send a message to the board.

Not even close.

According to Bloom/Barber at the fans forum our new academy got the highest rating in the country. From that perspective it is the best academy in the country. That doesn't mean it is the most successful, or most productive, but then it's only been open a few minutes, it's not likely to top those charts yet.

Highest marks ever for any academy assessed at grading, when it was awarded category 1.

( No doubt Man City will score more when finished ).

Where are these "marks" listed then? We haven't been open long enough for them to be for anything other than infrastructure but it would be nice to see what we got them for

1. The team used to have a quality spine in Kuszczak, Upson, Bridcutt, Ulloa. That's gone.
2. The team - in losing Barnes and El-Abd - has lost some of its soul.
3. As a fan I'm now totally confused as to what my expectation should be. There's £10million net transfer fees that will ensure FFP will be met with a few million left over, so why haven't we spent £3m-£4m already? If we really are tightening our belts and are committed to youth as the way forward then why sign Hyypia as coach rather than a Championship-savvy coach with experience of bringing young players through?

Absolutely correct

Then u see on the seagulls website Gordan Greer saying Sammi is inspirational.......not with that ****in team selection he aint!!!

In fairness I'm not sure who else he was supposed to pick, apart from the 18 players in the match squad we've only got Stephens and March ( both injured ) Ankergren and Maxi and that's it. It really does show how small our squad is at the moment especially as Crofts is now suspended as well.
