Is it me or have we got the worst bunch of Goalkeepers in any squad in the country??

Ankergren= Sh*te

Brezovan= Although he has improved considerably, hes still sh*te

Gonzalez= Sh*te ( although hard to judge after one game!)

who would we want in goal next season?? Think its time to invest in somebody new but not sure who is available who is really decent!

Posted his name a lot, and his performance last night against us impressed a lot of people - Tomasz Kucszack....and hes available on a free transfer and would be after first team football.

Yep - just you!!

They're not up to being number one for a top 6 Championship team (Gonzalez excepted as we haven't seen enough of him yet to judge) but they are plenty good enough for league 1 - whihc means there are also plenty of others worse in the country!

I didn't realize we had a goalkeeping coach posting on the board. Thanks for the in depth analysis of their skills.

They're all sub-standard, it's hardly worth debating.

But being positive and looking for SOLUTIONS, who would you go for?

We need a No1 keeper that would be good enough to play in the Premier League, and help us get there.

I'm looking at Scott Loach on the Watford bench last night (England Under-21 for years, been in full squads). He had bids turned down by the likes of Spurs a couple of years ago, but has lost a bit of confidence, hence Kuszczak in from Man Utd. If that could be sorted, he could be good. The Reading No2 keeper is very, very good and highly-rated (no disgrace being No2 to Federici, Alex McCarthy?) he isn't going to get a sniff next season unless AF gets injured. Or Kuscczak himself.

I'm sure there are others.

So gonzalez is shite after one game...

One game? To be honest, I was pretty close to making my mind up after 3 touches, the 3rd being when he picked the ball out of the net.

The reality for us this summer is there are a LOT of very good goalkeepers in the Prem who are 2nd or 3rd choice. We need to find the one who wants to drop a division to actually get some games rather than sitting pretty on a good wage, and just training for the money.

We are too good now, with ambitions too high to be just making do, and getting through 4 keepers in a season.

that was there 5th post ..be interesting to see what the other 4 were about

Wow i didnt realise the amount of times ive posted meant i couldn't have an opinion!
There are so many Albion fans who would agree with me, perhaps Gonzalez was nervous who knows? But his overall perfomance was very disappointing, he flapped at crosses, was too slow to distrubute and looked very uneasy on the ball. I'm all for giving him a chance but it doesnt look promising.

Young Ben Amos at Man United looks a good prospect and i'd doubt he'd get games with lindegaard and De Gea in front of him.

If we're to progress like Gus and Tony want to then getting in an experienced keeper in the summer is a must. While I don't think the 3 of them are "shite" they're all not good enough and there are plenty better keepers around.

Think it's worth raising the point as well that being a keeper in our team with the way we play is quite difficult, even Harper, an experienced Premiership standard goalkeeper struggled with playing it out from the back. We expect quite a lot from our keeper's, in any other side I think people would be praising the distribution last night as some of the kicks, particularly in the 2nd half were quite accurate, however we were frustrated at him not playing it quickly out short to the full backs.

I don't know contract situations, but I would trawl this lot of bench warmers for the one who wants to drop a division and get regular first team football.

Almunia
Jaaskelainen
Hahnemann
Stockdale
Craig Gordon
Cudicini
Kirkland

Last summer I wanted Thomas Sorenson, but he seems to have won his place back from Begovic again now, so that's probably gone.

Haywards Heath
Marcus Hahnemann, a little old perhaps but could do a short term job. Longer term I would look at Martin at MK Dons. If he could overcome injuries Chris Kirkland would be ideal but his injuries do raise a question about signing him.

Some good choices there, however Hahnemann and Cudicini are Ancient and Kirkland is always injured.

Stockdale, now thats a great shout! Well worth a look at and he's young.

Yep, thought he was nervous.
Nope, I thought he had safe hands, everything seemed to stick to him, unlike a few others.
Nope, I thought his distribution was alright. He tried to kick and throw the ball out at the earliest opportunity. I realise that Gus wants it rolled out to the full backs but it has to be mixed up.
He should be left in for Birmingham and Barnsley to see how he gets on and whether he can be our No.1 or No2. keeper next season with the other 2 gone.

I must admit, his distrubution was better in the 2nd half, however it all seemed very slow!

It is a bit harsh to say Gonzalez is shite after one game , but two things struck me as concerning for him to be first choice . Firstly his distribution seemed lacking and secondly his indecisions on whether to kick or throw at the last moment. Both linked to one another ,and i am not sure if the lack of options on the night were a factor ,Also was it first night nerves . can hardly blame him for that .. Look at Brez !
