Shambolic. Especially as the fans have a really, really good reason to protest (putting all the A-League finals in Sydney) but their point just gets lost in the chaos they've caused.

I went to a game there when I was out for the last but one Ashes, and it all kicked off then too, Western Sydney fans trashing a pub before the game.

Funny atmosphere at some games there, I may be wrong but the links to the former Yugoslavia countries seems to be behind a lot of the tribalism.

This is to do with protests about the running of the game over here. Fans are pissed and a mass walkout has been organised on the 20 minute mark of all games this weekend.

Some Victory fans have taken this way too far from what I am hearing.

That would make sense. As a newish sport over there it seems weird that it'd be long standing domestic rivalry. That would surely have been attached to all/some/one of the other established sports.

This particular issue appears to be a protest about the Australian F.A being money grabbing bellends getting out of hand.

When we lived in South Africa in the 60’s our football was all about Hellenic FC and various clubs that were associated with communities and that was my first experience of football violence.

I lived in Sydney in the early 2000s and certainly then the Western part from the Western suburbs to Parramatta were the less well off areas. A heady mix of the Balkans, Lebanese and local whites who hated both. Rugby League was the white guys’ game but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the others take on a soccer team.

Yes, I heard similar when I worked at ANZ. Lots of aggravation between Serbs and just about anybody else.

And you can bet the Australian Football Association will be all over this to excuse the money grab.

It's not newish, the first soccer club was founded in 1880 here.

Oldest still existing club 1883.

I was watching this game the goal keeper in question appeared to throw a flare back into the stands and then it all went mental. I think the bucket was aimed at the ref and the goalie took it full in the face. Not sure why players need to get involved in flare removal in the first place.
