I lived in Gloucester for many years and was there when the floods devastated a large part of the town in 2007, including Meadow Park which was the home of Gloucester City AFC. You may have seen pictures of the floodwater being up to the top of the crossbar and the ground was unusable once it all subsided. There is a good BBC article about their troubles ever since here:

Duly signed. I played Saturday and Sunday league in Gloucester many moons ago. Two key memories remain, flooded pitches in the city in the winter and sudden and unexpectedly long injury lists every time there was an away fixture in the Forest of Dean.
