"Glorious Goodwood" or Bloody Insult?

From "Glorious" Goodwood's own website:-

Set on top of the Sussex Downs, Goodwood is not only a breathtaking backdrop for some of the very finest flat racing, but it is also one of the world’s greatest venues for entertaining in international sport. Today, Goodwood is internationally acclaimed as being one of the most beautiful in the world...

I wonder how LDC would have dealt with planning permission, had it been in their area?

Goodwood is absolutely stunning, there is no other racecourse in this country like it. I cannot WAIT until Friday! :drink: :clap2:

The buildings all blend in well with the countryside and indeed compliment it.

That is simply not true. Naturally chalk downs rarely have a line of pointy bright white peaks along them.

BUT......why should they blend in? Let them stand out so everyone can see them - They look brilliant, just like Falmer could.

Fair point, otherwise it is just another bland field.

High up on the South Downs.
Goodwood is glorious.
Falmer would be given the chance.
Sadly we live in a class ridden country and that prize **** Baker and his "LibDem" pals have their tongues up the posteriors of the toffs.

The difference is that when you go to Goodwood and stand on top of the hill, just about everything you can see in every direction is owned by the Earl of March.

Some of us have flowerbeds or naff water features in our garden. When the 3rd Duke of Richmond decided that he wanted something nice out the back, there was so much space that he installed a racecourse. Planning permission? That's for the little people.

Bloody amazing racecourse though. Nothing quite like it anywhere in the world, and it just happens to be 30 miles from Brighton. A place that every true Sussex man and woman should visit at least once before they die, though sadly, there are many thousands who never do.

I'm actually going today on a corporate day out - never been before as I have no interest in horse racing, but I wasn't going to say no to a free meal and alcohol.

They'd have said 'yes' of course, just as they did to the Glyndebourne extension.

They only try to keep the oiks out, if you're a nob, then you can build to your heart's content.
