Is it just me, or is anyone else not convinced he will do a great job at Newcastle?

I take my hat off to the bloke for helping them to finish so highly up the table, given the situation they were in when he took charge. But I think that was down to him taking over after a mug like Souness, and trying to get on with the players rather than argue with them all of the time, which worked in the short term.

I am not sure how he will donow he is full time manager, I think he will struggle as he doesnt appear to be the greatest motivator when things go wrong,as he doesnt appear to be the greatest speaker, and without Alan Shearer at his side I dont think he will command the same authority.

His record is decidedly dodgy. I know he was unlucky with injuries at West Ham in the second season and they had 42 points, but that is the best team to have gone down in recent years. He also spent over £8 million on Hutchison and Repka there. He finished second bottom of the league with the Gills and pretty much took Watford down.

Could it be that Newcastle, the "massive club", couldnt attract anyone decent and have had to settle for Roeder, or am I being harsh on him? If Hitzfeld or others were interested in them, would they really have taken Roeder?

I think he lacks a tough streak and that is why he wants Shearer there.

I think Newcastle are permanantly doomed to under achieve. I must admit I've no idea why either! They just always seem to be around the fringes of UEFA cup qualification which is odd.

I don't think you can blame a succession of bad appointments of managers. The last manager to even nearly achieve anything was Keegan and you could argue he's not all that great.

Roeder, as you say, seems un-confident when speaking which will hardly set a dressing room alight. With regards the £8m he spent on Hutchinson and Repka, at the time money was being thrown around like confetti. Repka was a bit of a laughing stock but if you look at his record it wasn't bad money spent really. He gave WHU quite a few years good service. I've seen £8m spent on worse players!

The most ridiculous part of all this was whether or not he could manage Newcastle because he didn't have the right badge!

They were underachieving BADLY under Souness, Roeder's got the morale improved and got them a bit more organised but he's not a good manager. This has been a honeymoon period imo, in the long term he's not a good appointment. They never looked like getting anything out of the games against Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea in the cup.
I don't understand it when there are managers like Hitzfield and O'Neill out of work.

I'd wager he'll be sacked before he completes the pro-license course.

I agree with that- honeymoon period. Being full time manager is very different. I saw them get smashed by Man U (should have been 5-0 anyway) and they never looked dangerous v Chelsea in the cup.

To me it either suggests a complete lack of ambition on Newcastles part, or it says that they arent as big as they think they are and couldnt get any of the really high profile managers.

Not that I pay that much attention to Newcastle but it seems to me that quite a few 1st choice players came back from injury just after Roeder and Shearer took over, which may have quite a bit to do with their resurgence?

Which is presumably why the other permiership clubs are happy for Roeder to take charge!

I have a gut feeling that he will fall on his arse. Coupled with the fact that the Geordies seem to get fed up with whoever is put in charge after a while, I forsee him collecting his P45 before the end of next season.

Don't he look funny as well ! A bit creepy I reckon.
