as 10cc say, not in hove
I think I've already questioned his motivations. But as a litmus test to the current environment, if a Police Officer is warning somebody being "outwardly Jewish" we are in very very bad place.
But he is a known antagonist. Far from me to defend the Met, but this copper is doing his best against an antagonist, not a man crossing the road as the BBC and Sunak would like us to think

His "best" has gone viral and inflamed existing tensions, he had absolutely no need to use the language he did.

I've lived up here hear for years mind. The MET are genius at making difficult situations worse, genius. If you are an "antagonist" they are there for the taking with a series of apologies about apologies. A progressive thinking leadership with too many dinosaurs in their ranks, all completely politicised in the middle of a political/culture war trying to please a left wing mayor and a right wing home secretary.

Sussex Police would have half the problem with half the officers.

Whether that being their behaviour at the Sarah Everard demonstration (I saw first hand) or inflaming the "just ignore them" anti-vax morons who used to congregate on Clapham Common for a ill-attended rave. SEND IN THE RIOT POLICE !

Long due disbanding and building up again from the ground up.

Very much this. I think the football analogy that previous posters have used is spot on. You're on your own and you've got your Albion shirt on having beaten Palace with a controversial last minute winner. You attempt to cross the road towards a baying bunch of Palace fans. Copper says you look very much like an Albion fan and for your safety suggests you follow his alternative route. Why are you looking to cross the road? You don't like being told what to do? It's and act of defiance and should you get battered you can pose yourself as a victim?

Ultimately, it's a fuss about nothing and the copper is getting stick for applying good sense against a clearly antagonistic individual.

Wow, comparing antisemitism and then (now removed) gaslighting by the met police to football rivalry. As a member of the Jewish community I can tell you I don’t feel safe walking around London with any outward sign of my faith
These are exceptional times. Maybe don’t wear any outward signs of your faith? Football fans are sometimes known not to wear colours.

Wow just how badly have you misinterpreted my post!
You think he should have been waved through, regardless of how it might have turned out? Sorry, I don't. Sometimes keeping the peace, and protecting someone from potential harm, is more important than allowing domeone the freedom to annoy and provoke a hostile crowd.

Back in Sussex
Jewish population 10% of Muslim population in UK. Hundreds more muslims arriving every week on small boats. Vast majority will stay. Thousands more as legal migrants. If I was Jewish I'd certainly be feeling vulnerable and more and more outnumbered, especially as plenty here equate being Jewish, as being Israeli. Accepted 'vast majority' of Muslim's are peaceful, but any small majority that aren't can easily number in the thousands. This guy might have been being provocative, but he's also quite legitimately asking the question why every week, large parts of London become no-go areas for obviously Jewish people in subservience to protests about a country we have very little actual influence over, and have been encouraging to engage in a ceasefire, much more aid distribution and exchange of hostages.

This is the most depressing thread I’ve read on NSC and that’s saying something. The casual anti-Semitism from so many posters is jaw-dropping, likewise the pathetic attempts to equate being Jewish with being a football fan, FFS. If you think it’s provocative for a Jewish man to leave a synagogue in London wearing a skull cap then maybe, just maybe, you’re part of the problem.

You really need to see ALL of the available footage. He was not ‘just leaving a synagogue etc’, he was accompanied by a film crew to record every moment of his attempts to antagonise both Palestinian protestors and the police. Most of the mainstream footage shown was supplied by his film crew.

Meanwhile, a longer piece of footage was recorded by Sky News. In this he was noted to have not ‘attempted to cross the road’, but to walk down the centre of the road towards the oncoming protest. The police officers, whilst using slightly clumsy language, were seen to be both helpful and advisory.

Whilst Falter is a known activist who will happily twist the narrative to suit his agenda, he is far from being the only member of the Jewish faith to do this. It is commonplace. I now await the oft repeated accusations of using tropes etc, whilst the reality is that 4,000 year old stereotypes have not lasted this long without foundation.

Of course he knew what he was doing.
So what?
Rosa Parks knew what she was doing. Sometimes a point has to be made. Have you listened to the vile abuse he was getting from marchers? Simply for being 'visibly Jewish'?
It's the equivalent of 'don't go out in that skirt, you'll get raped'

Copper is trying to keep the peace, not create Apartheid. It's the same reason you may be marshalled a bit at football matches, for being visibly Brighton.

Could you explain what you mean by this please?

I am not sure that is what most are saying.

Having watched the full 13min exchange that sky have published, I do think his actions (not what he was wearing nor where he alleges he had left) are the problem here. He tried to cross a march a number of times. The officer initially was very calm. Eventually frustration gets the better of him and he makes a crass and inappropriate comment about being obviously jewish. He is clearly wrong to do so.

Falter had a film crew and bodyguards with him as well as others in his group and was attempting to provoke a reaction.

At one point he grabs at the police officer as he tries to bundle past him walking down the middle of the road into a march. He could have been arrested for assaulting an officer as well as behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace.

My only comment on this thread is that I am shocked that a Jewish person cannot walk around being obviously Jewish without having to fear for their safety in 21st Century Britain. It is very sad and worrying. I despair for the future with all this unsolicited hate

Nothing to do with what the thread is highlighting about the demonstration, just the more widespread problem.

the man is being antagonistic. police are controlling this march as they do any other, they stop random people cross the road where ever. should police let anyone march without any control, they can sit in a van and only respond if there's a problem?
