Doesn't make it right. At a peaceful protest, not a ruck dahn the Old Kent Road.
99% of people at football are there peacefully too.

At Palace the Met treat us all like we’re about to break cordon and go on the rampage. Pretty much everyone just wants to get a train or to their car.

And they LOVE it. Paid hooligans with numbers hidden for the most.

The Italians were the same. All but set the dogs on us before, dumped near Termini after. Loved their shields and batons and searching you 4 times.

I think the Police Officer got it right.
The Jewish gentleman was being disingenuous.

How many times have you , as a football fan, been told you can’t go in such and such pub, you can’t walk the other side of the road, or even down a certain road.

These instructions/orders are for your own safety.

The only difference is, if you ignore the Police and carry on with your actions, you are likely to be arrested for a public order offence.

My own suspicion is the gentleman in question was trying to provoke an incident that could be used to discredit the demonstrators.
The police officer prevented him from filming and broadcasting on the internet an incident, and, therefore, ruined a chance of a propaganda coup.
But...but...but...this IS NOT RIGHT.

In the early 80s a young woman was rebuked by a high court judge for wearing a short skirt, and claimed this was contributory negligence when she was raped.

It. Isn't. Right.

It is not illegal to be a practicing Jew, and as a practicing Jew you should be able to walk England's highways and byways with impunity. The law says you can. This is fact.

I back him all the way. British Jews don’t feel safe in London. That’s an effing outrage and an effing fact. I have no time for those who try to justify it in any way.
My mate, a goth/alternative type with braided hair, wears a pentagram necklace. Twice, while in London, he was accosted and threatened in convenience stores because the owners thought it was a Star of David. That was five years ago, what it would be like now is anyone’s guess.
It doesn’t make you far right to point out that both times the perpetrators were of a certain religion. Though I bet that’s what I’ll get called.
Normally I don’t post on political threads on here, mainly because we’re all Brighton fans first, our political allegiances should not come in to it. I like to just accept that we are all different in that aspect and it really doesn’t matter as long as our club is doing ok.
Well said.

Just far enough away from LDC
Having looked at his LinkedIn profile and exchange of correspondence with the met police gold commander, I suspect he knew what he was expecting by being there and also knew how to draw a reaction after the event. He is a trained lawyer and journalist

The officer handled it poorly but it was an act intended to provoke a reaction. And I am not supporting those marching either

I never usually watch ITV News (just happened to be on as was watching FAC game), this was a top story.

Must be very little going on in the world right now....

Yep. So the guilty are police in this instance. I have been to shitehole and have experience the full force of the utter bollocks.

Free men and women have a right to tread the King's highways.

(As an aside, not sure why football supporters should have to put up with this bollox. If some numpty steps out of line, tazer the fucker. But leave the rest of us alone.)

I know what you mean, but does the law really say/allow that? Presumably if it was a group of practicing Jews, they wouldn't have been allowed to cross, which seems more reasonable?

This is my view too. He knew exactly what he was doing. On Radio 4 early this morning he claimed he was just "out for a walk". I have no dog in this fight but it's a horrible mess. In this case, and I really wasn't after a binfest, I think the officer acted fairly sensibly, maybe he didn't....

There is war pestilence and famine, but nothing beats a bit of Jew-baiting for televisual jollity. I will add, with a different nuance, a bit of islamophobia too. No longer any mileage to be had with other minorities, now that we have so many black, Asian and gay people of profile. Mind you, it is surely time for a new knife crime outrage - and yes, step forward men of West Indian heritage. OK some of you have made good, but We Have Our Eye On You! Watch it!

I'm supporting the marching and our man's act of defiance. Both are legal.

I think I'd like to add a whole load of ifs and buts, but I can't actually think what they might be.

I feel like putting on a tiny mini skirt and sashaying up and down Market Street, Fav, but it's too f***ing cold and I no longer own any mini skirts.

Anti semitism is a HUGE issue and this is a ‘top story’.
However, for me the most horrifying and worrying aspect was the language, intimidation and attitude of the marchers. I thought the policeman showed remarkable patience and the Jewish gentleman stayed remarkably calm.

I back him all the way. British Jews don’t feel safe in London.

And Muslims often don't feel safe either, the experiences I've been told and seen. It's shocking.

I have sympathy with both, but I can't put my head inside of either.

Who I have no time for is, is the behavior of some who are neither who are using the conflict to stoke up conflict for their political advantage.

They are beneath contempt.

This is more akin to ten Millwall boys crossing the Old Kent Road towards a group of Palace fans enjoying a lunchtime Babycham in the New Heart and Hand (lovely decor, I should add, and a lavender hand wash in the bog. Smashing).

Now, if the plan was to enjoy a cool glass of Pimms and a cucumber sandwich, what's the problem?

If however, they were running across the OKR, singing 'you're gonna get your far king eads kicked in' then any passing officer of the law might have had good reason to intervene.

Some middle aged bloke wearing a kippah, even if it were a Millwall kippah, however, FFS. Get a f***ing grip, Copper.

Not seen the footage. Not sure I fancy it. What is the gist of it? For me any peace protest with people waving swastikas is krunk as far as I'm concerned.

I have had a quick look at the news feeds and haven't seen any grandstanding yet. Who has been at it already?
