Getting rid of Sky, thoughts?

Not the real one
I've moved into a house that had an old sky minidish on the side of the house. When I moved in and sky came out to set up my system, I thought they'd use the old dish but he ignored it and put up a new one. So I had this old redundant dish pointing at the ground. I plugged a new cable in the LNB, and bought a cheap sat receiver and started playing about. Eventually I find Hotbird 13e, coming through loud and clear. So after seeing all the channels I saw Al Jazeera Sports 1-10! A bit more research showed that for 12 months the subscription is £90. Compare to sky sports at £240 per year. So I've ordered the Al Jaz card and I'm gonna turn off Sky sports.
Apparently, Al Jaz has Npower champ games live at 3pm and others on Sat and Sun, la Liga, Bundesliga, F1, tennis, etc etc. They show FA cup and prem games after the match has finished, so not live.
Has anyone else done this? Have I done the right thing?

Can't. Give. Up. Sky.

That's how I feel, I am giving up HD football aswell so it's double hurtful. Al Jaz only have HD on Nilesat and I can't pick that up with a minidish.
If this works, I might get rid of sky altogether.
I've plumped for this card from Al Jazeera, and now I'm having second thoughts. But I need to cut down my monthly spend and £55 per month from for Sky, is a bit steep.

Does anyone else have Al Jazeera Sports? Is it any good?

Doesn't Gary Lineker do Al Jazeera as well as BBC? Give it go, I recently dropped Sky Sports and don't miss it. But then I'm in bed by 7pm most nights for work so I never really got the most use out of it.

Rumours are Al Jazeera are putting in a bid for the 2013/14 Premier League packages as well, so they may well have some of the live Premier League games in future.

This, Al-Jazeera in 5 years time will be the holders of the majority of Prem games. They are willing to throw billions at it.

Yes, I suspect we'll start to see some real bidding wars between Sky and Al Jazeera (I don't think ESPN care that much).

This, thanks mate. Makes me feel better about cancelling sky. But then I can imagine the subscription for Al Jazeera going through the roof.
I must admit, I'm looking forward to the Championship matches. Especially when they show an Albion game. If I can't get to it of course.

Just sign up to liveonlinefooty, only £3 a month and got everything Sky shows and more.

My girlfriend has decided it's time to get rid of Sky as we simply can't afford to be shelling out £50 a month on it. Seeing your post made me so happy at the prospect of still being able to watch football only to find that they're not taking in new members on their website... gutted :(

I ditched the Sky sports and films a couple of years ago....easy to exist without them. Still have more channels than necessary, and know I'm not contributing too much to the Murdoch family by way of excess profits. Still get chase up calls from Sky every few months asking me to reconsider, but no chance.

2 years ago I said I couldn't afford it and wanted to cancel - they offered me 6 months free then 6 at half price. saved me a few quid.

Getting rid of Sky

Over 10 years with Sky, the Sports Channels alone are worth joining,If i had to choose between Albion and Sky my season would go,only one match every two weeks against 14 days of Sky.

Albion and Premier League latest from Sky Sports
