i don't blame Micky i think the problem with all this mess lies with Dick - he wanted the change - hasn't got much to say for himself now?

Don't be stupid, what mess? 17th in October? Wilkins wasn't a good manager for various reasons, he got rid of him, got someone else in charge, who has been so for less than 2 months, so what exactly would you like him to say? "Sorry for getting a manager in charge that isn't in the top two or play-offs only 10 games in. We shouldn't have to give him time we want results and success NOW."

Can I just point something out to you Wilkins lovers - the first year he was in charge we finished 18th so you are in fact comparing Adams first season (not full, not even half way through - less than 2 months in!) with Wilkins second season. People were criticising Wilkins last year, he wasn't a good manager, and now as things aren't going too well, he is hailed as some sort of wonder manager.

.

Can I just point out that the season we finished 18th Wilkins wasn't in charge for the whole season? McGhee was in charge at the beginning, and some (not me though) would say that Wilkins had to spend the rest of that season undoing the damage McGhee had done.

That withstanding the rest of your post is pretty accurate.

I am certainly not calling for Adams to be sacked - in October that's crazy - but it is very clear that we have gone backwards from last season.

Didn't he take over in September 2006?

I haven't been on here for a few days as I can't stand the shit that people speak, especially after our loss at Leeds - even though they are one of, if not the best team in the division. I logged on today thinking it would of died down, only to find this ridiculous thread!

I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it, when we start getting results and doing well you lot will soon change your tune, one word, fickle.

I disagree with many on here and am quite able and willing to stand my ground and argue the toss, but you really are bizaare.

I am not in a MA out brigade, or as Wilkins would never return especially whilst DK is in place either so the sacking argument is futile.

But this is always likely to be a fair debating forum to discuss the credentials of sacking last years manager and recruiting our current one.

Wilkins did finish 18th the first season, but whilst having no resources and having to juggle an extremely young and inexperienced squad.

Your comparisons are not really valid as MA has had some serious backing from the Chairman and that is where your assessment weakens.

Wilkins then finish 7th when allowed some time to put his own playing ethos and style in place still with still a quite under resourced squad and came up with a 7th place, a 7th place you feel so uncomfortable to acknowledge, .

There is not one current statistic other than blind hope that offers support to your current distorted view that Wilkins was a bad manager and MA is currently any better.

Yes. But that's still not the WHOLE season is it. Adams had the whole of pre season (and a couple of months beforehand) to put his squad together, get them drilled how he wanted. Taking over a weak, dispirited squad from McGhee in September is not the same. Plus the fact that was Wilkins first EVER season as a manager, obviously not for Adams.

+ the fact that Adams had a much stronger base to build on, solid back 4 and goalkeeper with a top quality strike partnership that Wilkins had built

What do you find bizaare about somebody that just wants to get behind the team and manager and not want to see stupid threads like this being started?

Why do people always do that 'I am not anti Adams' as though I was aiming it at YOU, i was saying it to anyone that it refers to. And of course he isn't going to return.

Of course there are going to be discussions about previous seasons, but starting a thread called 'Get Wilkins back in charge now' is hardly fair and doesn't help matters.

You say about Wilkins being allowed to put his own ethos and style in place, is exactly what people aren't giving Adams the time to do. I do acknowledge the 7th place finish, but it isn't what I base my opinion on, like you and many others do. To be honest I'm quite sick of spelling out why I didn't think Wilkins was good enough, and I'm also sick of people thinking he was so bloody great when so many times last season we were terrible and lost many games that we shouldn't.

Patience. Everybody, patience.

Running out I'm afraid. We have yet to win in the league at Withdean in 5 attempts and we have a -4 home goal difference. On top of that, we seem to be unable to play for more than 40 minutes per half. If we do not win on Saturday, there needs to be some serious investigation as to why not.

Correct, he took over after 6 games with 7 points and mid table. Still his rant against McGhee sounded good apart from the small point it was absolutely untrue.

Thanks for confirming, and also for making the point about PRE-season. The season doesn't start with the first League fixture, in fact you could make a case for it starting the minute the final whistle blows on the last game of the preceeding season. Preparation, contracts, recruitment, retained lists, etc.

No not the WHOLE season but 6 games in as US said. Yes it does start with pre-season and of course it helps but that doesn't mean everything will be right or perfect straight away, you don't always have the great start you want. Anyway you're picking, the point is Wilkins took over very, very early on in the season, not half way through and had plenty of time and I'm comparing this to Adams. One rule for one, one for the other.

I believe the reason why Wilkins was sacked was to do with the falling crowds at Withdean. It was difficult to push on with Falmer if we were only getting crowds of 4K. I don't think DK could give a stuff as to whether Wilkins was popular in the dressing room, in the same way he couldn't care less if Adams upsets Lynch, Cox, Robinson etc. 7th was an excellent place to finish last season but Wilkins personality meant he didn't connect with the fans and that was seen as the reason why the crowds were falling. Adams does create much more enthusiasm and there has been an increase in gates but that won't last unless we start winning some home games.
