Pretty sure England would do similar if Spain had some island in the Irish sea or something.

It’s more about Spain, which has colonies on the North Africa coast and islands off the West African coast that might make them think their pursuit of territory they ceded in a peace treaty, and held for relatively few years, might be hypocritical. Germany appears to me to have moved on in a positive direction, Spain less so. I have visited these countries easily between 50 and 75 times between them and worked in both, it’s just my opinion from those experiences.
