Bit of a clue as to why he won so resoundingly there

Surely it's for, y'know, the people of Rochdale?

On a related note, how do these politicians think that anything they say, do or vote for – whether it's a pause, ceasefire or 'just carry on as you are' – will have ANY kind of bearing on the atrocities that are being carried out over in the Middle East? The whole thing is a joke and just an excuse to play party politics and try and get one up on whichever party or person they are against.

Twats.

Nonsense as usual from Galloway, the Russian sympathiser.
Labour didn’t have a candidate standing, because of anti semitism, and, as previously said, withdrew their support as it was too late to change candidates.
Sir Keir Starmer doesn’t select candidates, the local Labour Party did.
Starmer tries to interfere when he can

The 'Independent' candidate also polled pretty well - who was that, and what platform were they standing on?
scatter gun of local issues: local hospital, speeding, help small business and sports clubs.

Would it have happened if Jeremy Corbyn had been leader of the Labour Party? Sadly, we will never know.

But Galloway is such a great orator, he will hopefully give both main parties an almighty kick up the arse.
Maybe he can push the parties toward his preferred positions of "Vladimir Putin - he's alright really" and "Donald Trump: The real winner of the 2020 US election".

Come 2001 my brother got in touch to wish him well, only to be told he would be seeking a second term, it turned out once an MP has won two General Elections they qualify for the MP final salary pension.
Yes you need to serve two (I believe consecutive) terms to qualify for the (generous) pension scheme. It's one of the reasons why so many 2019 Red Wall Tories are bricking it, the gravy train is leaving the station and they're stuck at the ticket barrier.

Tice claiming (without an evidence whatsoever) that his boy only lost because of "intimidation and violent threats on the campaign trail"

Ok, champ, whatever
Ah how very Trump. "We didn't lose because we're not popular, it was because of everyone else deliberately trying to stop us".

The constituency level polling for this has been almost non-existent, which is a shame as I feel like if people had realised Tully had a realistic chance the result might have turned out differently (it's a lot easier for people put off different parties to back the independent candidate than a rival party).
