The final poll opinion poll predictions suggest that turnout will be about 72%, and of those who vote only 28% will vote Labourr.

This means for every 100 people eleigible to vote, only 20 will vote Labour. This must mean Gordon will be gone by Monday, to go and fcuk up some otherwise decent charity work, right?

You could equally have said that only 35% [I'm making this up] vote Tory, meaning that only 25 out of every 100 voted for them...

You know, I've heard people saying this unqualified statement for weeks now. Although I'm no fan of Brown (or indeed his treacherous 'New Labour' colleagues), I can't help but think that there's been ineffectual PM's since the inception of our Parliament. Maybe it's part & parcel of our increasingly vacuous modern society, but it would be preferable (at least in my mind) to have a bit of sodding perspective for a change. Even in very recent years, it's funny how the archbishop of neo-'socialist' UK politics - a certain Anthony Charles Lynton B-Liar - nicely baled just before things really started to go the shape of a pear. For me, he's at least as culpable as GB for the current state of UK affairs: & arguably more so. Still, if being uninformed & largely unquestioning makes access to the great democratic process that much easier for the masses , who am I to criticise?

These things are always subjective of course but I doubt that he compares with Lord North, who lost us America; Portland who was too ill to manage his cabinet; the Duke of Wellington, who nearly brought us to the brink of civil war; Balfour, presided over a disunited cabinet, McDonald, split his own party; Chamberlain, ineffectual attempt to appease Hitler; Eden, presided over the disastrous Suez invasion; Home, on the wrong side in every conflict; Heath, lost control of the country and Blair took us into an illegal war.

Brown made mistakes but I think he'd go some way to be compared with North, generally regarded as the worst ever, or Eden, generally thought to be the worst of the 20th century
