Have to say this is reminding me of 1992 when everybody KNEW the Tories would get kicked out, except for the fact that they didn't.

Anyone else remember the Sun 'Turn The Lights Out' Headline just before the Election?

For Kinnock read Milliband?

Would it be possible for either Cons or Lab to go it alone without a majority? I cant see either of them wanting to go into another coalition with the Lib Dems and I would imagine most lib dems wont want to be in government again having found it a bit too scary

Quite possible although minority governments don't tend to last long.

The Liberals want the centre ground I think it's called sitting on the fence.

That arse in Brighton is still calling our Soldiers hired killers. They done many things helping in disasters around the world. help the heroes !

I wonder what Labour supporters think of the collapse of their vote in a very safe seat in their nw of England heartland? Seems to me as though UKIP have the potential to split both the Tory and labour votes. I'd be very worried whether I was a red or a blue.

Probably worth a thread of its own but is there anybody out there who actually likes Student politician Ed Milliband? He makes Nick Clegg look like Winston Churchill.

It's such a shame a party with the likes of Tom Watson within it is being led by such a wet lettuce. If Labour had someone who could even remember a speech they would be home and dry next May.

Watson is a tw@t but I do generally like Douglas Alexander, Alan Johnson and even Chukka Umana. It is generally a very poor collection of politicians.

Agreed - I worked briefly for Alan Johnson at the Home Office and he was a thoroughly decent bloke; possibly that worked against him. Tories were very worried that he would stand against Brown when he got the Labour leadership, and then again when Brown resigned. He stood for Deputy Leader, but I don't think he had the stomach for the fight for the top job (his marriage broke up at that time). I like Alexander too; Umunna is okay, but sometimes seems a bit pleased with himself. I agree though that there are very few "big" figures, the likes of Clarke, David Owen, Robin Cook and Norman Tebbit. Whether you like him or not, you can hardly argue that he wasn't a big political figure, the same goes for figures on the Labour side.

Sitting on the fence, or
simply not agreeing that socialist policies or unfettered free markets are desirable. Seems a pretty sensible alternative to me.

I wonder is David will come back on the scene when his brother steps down as PM?

Tories-will rip you off
Labour-will pretend they like "the working man" make themselves a lot of money , have a depression (which will be blamed on the tories past administration) and then rip you off

I dont vote but the way I see it is at least with the tories you have time to "lube up" as you know their intent where as labour will wine and dine you,, kiss you slowly then agressively gang rape you with no lubrication and the next morning they will say they are sorry and "thats not the real them" and promise you it wont happen again.....until next time

A poor and bad taste analogy.

A poor and bad taste analogy.

The problem with labour voters is they take politics like supporting a football team, full of pride even if they are shit and they cant see any wrong just blane rival fans, the labour party (much like the tories) is dead of any of its old idealsbut labour fans still love to think they hold the same principles they did 50 years ago and cant see any wrong in what labour have done in recent years. As fir poor taste analogy (appropriately has anal in it) I sincerely apologise if I offended as rape is not a joke but it wasnt meant in the sense of actual rape

Very sad state of affairs when Labour have completed failed to offer any kind of zest for government. Where's the FIZZ of big ideas? They seem beaten already. Might just abstain this time around. Or vote for the Greens, just to help further piss off the local private motorist.

Well speaking as a pizzed off with politicians in general person. I think your post could suitably be pinned on any of the three main parties. Roll on a hung parliament and change of all party leaders, in the hope that common sense reigns.

I really hope not. Coalition rule hasn't done much for Brighton and Hove council. Thankfully I live out of the area, so I am not experiencing the mess first hand, but it's very clear that divergent policies and a lack of single vision from one party does not work.

Whatever anyone may dislike about the Tories (and I do not appreciate their continued deference to the 1% super-rich, also encouraged under Labour), it is their policies in the last 5 years that have helped this country start to recover ahead of Europe and the U.S. and I have no doubt that either a labour government or Lib-Lab coalition will take us in the opposite direction with more public spending that cannot be funded without more taxation and the inevitable impact on the economy.

Political parties and their policies cannot please everyone, but there is no doubt that any attempt to spend more than we can afford risks undermining the future for everyone.

As Bill Clinton constantly advised himself "It's the Economy, (that matters) Stupid!" More investment in engineering and manufacturing would be something all parties could do for the benefit of the country.
