I'm getting a flight at stupid o'clock in the morning in a couple of weeks, and want to stay overnight at or near Gatwick. I've looked at Holidayextras.com and frankly can't make up my mind -- they all look either too far away, have a crap transfer service, or are too expensive.

Which are your favourites?

(I don't really want to pay more than 80 quid -- though I could if pushed -- and I need to check in at 4.30am, if this helps)

I prefer driving and parking at APH even that early in the morning. Nothing on the roads so its an easy trip. In the hotels its always noisy due to people coming and going all night long, its not worth the extra expense.

I'm behind you!
A mate stayed in the Yotel at Gatwick. He vowed that he wouldn't repeat the experience as the decor "reminded him of a tart's bedroom," and he found the capsule claustrophobic.

I don't know how much time you have before you travel, but last time I flew out of Gatwick early morning I stayed overnight at Travelodge. I found the room on the net for £29. There's a hopper bus connecting the hotel and airport, and the six minute journey to the north terminal cost £3.

avoid the Effingham Park, nothing wrong with the hotel, but it's a little way out, (it's avertised as Gatwick) the shuttle runs about once every 3 hours and a taxi costs £15 each way

The Gatwick Hilton is just behind the South Terminal. Might even be attached to it. Probably costs a bit more than 80 quid tho. But you never know

Else maybe stay at a hotel in Crawley and order a cab in to the airport?

brighton, actually
afaik the travelodge by north terminal is within walking distance, if you are brave enough!

there are several others to the north (round the back of the airport grounds), that may be cheaper, as well as some guest houses.

ones nearer crawley, or t'other side of M23 should be cheaper.

for such an early start, i think taxi's maybe the only things going?
