It’s not becoming I know but I always chuckle at the amount of PAX dragging their cases down the slip road looking like refugees fleeing a war zone all to save a fiver when in all honesty once airside will be paying more than a fiver over the odds for their shit Wetherspoons breakfast and crap larger

I'll give you the dragging trolley bags around to save a few quid - I've been on four trips this year so far and EVERY trip there's someone that complains they can't have their luggage above their seat. PAY to put it in the hold you skin flint. What I won't give you is the Wetherspoons breakfast comment - they don't take the piss on price even though it's at an airport and it's a decent enough breakfast.

Fair enough. I see it slightly differently; airports lost millions during Covid and whilst we’d all like to pay nothing:

1) There are alternatives and the drop-off is a convenience; often in life you have pay for convenience.
2) Flying usually isn’t essential. It costs money and in the grand scheme of things 5 quid on top of all the other costs isn’t much.

This every time.

I just can't get my head around why anybody in this day and age, would complain quite so vehemently, about parting with £5 to be dropped off, or picked up, right outside the terminal. I mean, what can you buy for a fiver now anyway? very little is the answer.

As you say if you really do feel maligned at spending the money, simply get dropped off, or picked up, at the appropriate long term car park for the terminal you are flying from, then jump on a frequest transfer bus, to and from the terminal.

To be fair £8.30 for a breakfast is pretty cheap. But I’ve never had a Weatherspoons breakfast…

I now always book the Premier inn when I have an early flight or a late flight back.
Get train up and start my holiday a day early!
Book early enough and you can get a night for under £100.

Honest question - why are these airports charging to drop off now when haven’t felt the need to since their inception? I’d speculate shareholder profit, plain and simple, so yes I’ve got a problem with that and comparing it to buying a breakfast is irrelevant.

Growth in number of people flying I would think, then number of people wanting to drop off creating congestion and in turn safety and security issues. As @Chicken Run points out now for £5 it’s convenient quick and organised.

A lot of the issue was not people hanging around for a few extra minutes. People were pulling up and then heading up into the terminal to avoid paying for short term parking. There were also a lot of unofficial taxis that used to hang around. All of this blocked up the spaces for those just dropping off and at times, it was dangerous with people having to walk thought double parked vehicles.
