17th century, detached, 3 bed house/cottage; solid brick walls (ie non-cavity), no gas or oil (yuck), electricity drives an air-source heat pump for CH/HW and costs about £1800pa (£150pm) with Ovo. Should get £700-800 from the pv solar panel feed-in tariff etc over a full year. Also spend around £100pa max on logs to fuel a Huntingdon stove and open fire.

Bet you're glad you have the 43p a unit feed-in tariff , the Government is now proposing cutting the feed-in tariff to new applicants after July to just 13p a unit.

4 bed detch was paying £105 for both just gone up to £145 per month -> wife at home who does not understand the fact central heating can be turned off and no wall insulation.

Mmmm kill 2 birds with one stone and use the wife and children to insulate the walls :D

The pikeyness of this statement is mind boggling.

WTF? How is that pikey? Do you want me to go round to my neighbours flats and say "excuse me can you turn down your heating so my flat is cold enough to turn mine on?" It's a modern and incredibly well insulated building and the temperature never drops below about 18 degrees.

It's called planning - the govt's non-response to the solar industry's proposal last April for a 25% drop in feed-in tariff seemed a warning (to us) of further clueless behaviour to come. Then the 50% tariff reduction "proposal" in Oct that was ruled illegal and now more comedy - not funny for the solar industry in the UK though, or the 1,000's that will lose their jobs. Who needs manufacturing?

4 bed semi in Hove.
Insulated roof space.
Insulated cavity walls.

Average over the past 4 years...
Electricity = £60
Gas = £62 (cooking and heating)

Year on year the average has held constant, but that is because each year we have done something to mitigate usage.
e.g. Insulation, changing wholesale to low energy light bulbs. change to efficient boiler, Swapping out computers for low energy replacements yadayada.

Cost can only go up now, as I think we have run out of things to change. (Except for the 42" plasma TV, and thats NOT GOING!)

2 Bed flat. £60 for Gas, £20 for electricity.

every year I get a rebate of about £200 from British Gas, but they still won't put my £60 a month down. Or to be precise they put it down then it magically goes back up the £60 the following month. They are pretty f***ing useless.

I must admit I am feeling the squeeze these days and am being a lot more frugal with my energy consumption, as the cost of energy is only going one way.

they tried to get mine to £60 when i first started paying it like that. I said £40 quid or i'll go elsewhere. seemed to work.

£118 per month with EOn. 4 bed detached. Was lower but they increased the monthly payment. Have just switched to a lower (EOn) tariff and mild winter has reduced consumption considerably so looking forward to a reduction/rebate. I read meters monthly to ensure smoothing of power assumptions. I've invested in more loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and spend my time walking around behind the wife turning off all the appliances and lights she leaves turned on. Occasional weekly visit from grown up daughter has massive impact, you might notice the dimming of lights and poor water pressure in Bexhill on Wednesday evenings.
