The obligatory Gareth Barry thread ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Here’s a question NSC’ers:

Would Gareth Barry have become the player he was, (England international, premier league winner etc.) if he’d stayed at Brighton and made his debut here before moving on?

There was meant to be a poll but hasn’t appeared :lolol::lolol:

Like West Brom would sell one of their most experienced players to a relegation rival mid way through the season

They would if they had a younger version lined up who could do the job and still be with them for next season possibly in The Championship. Or perhaps splash the cash on somebody like Shelvey.

The (valid) point is though, why would they do us any favours ?

possibly, although of course he only really ended up at Villa as they were desperate to sign Michael Standing from us and it helped convince him to move up there- so not sure how highly rated Barry was at the time?

it would be a nice moment if he did come to us at some point

If they signed somebody who they considered to be better they wouldnt think they were doing us a favour as our midfield is settled and he would only be back up as Sidwell is/was so helping us wouldnt come into it. Unlike Newcastle who have said they wont sell Shelvey to a relegation rival as obviously he would become 1st choice.

Even if they brought in what they considered a superior replacement, they'd still be potentially solving one of our problems by letting a quality (albeit past his best) player join a relegation rival. Put it this way, if Bournemouth suddenly found that they were a bit short of cover at leftback, would you be happy for us to send Liam Rosenior down there to help out for the rest of the season ?

Its the type of thing than can royally come back and bite you on the arse.

This thread needs a poll.
