Jim Gannon has turned down their offer to continue past the end of the season, citing family reasons.

I'm beginning to think we got off lightly when we missed out on this bloke. All worked out much better in the end!

Eye. I don't think Gannon would have been able to keep us up last season, and we were blessed to have the savour that was Ressael Slid.

Equally, although sad for big Russ, we have ended up with quite frankly one of the best managers in the league and one of the best up and comming managers in the country.

Fairplay to him putting his family first, but he's in the wrong game if he feels unable to move anywhere out of the greater Manchester area.

It was a lucky escape. Football is littered with managers who did well in their first appointment at the club but were never able to repeat the success elsewhere. Maybe they had a history with that club and knew the place inside out (as he did at Stockport).

Gannon looks to be the latest in the line of these.

Quite. A few people may need to revise their opinions of Gannon's quality;

Dundalk - Average - Didn't stick around
Stockport - Impressive success
Motherwell - Abject failure - didn't stick around
Peterborough - Failure - isn't going to stick around

Doesn't seem like the sort of manager we'd want.

Gannon has done a good job at Peterborough though, Gritt23, to be fair.

It seems very strange that he/his family are so reluctant to move anywhere outside of Greater Manchester. It's not as if we live in a massive country where all of these places are thousands of miles apart; it's only 137 miles from Peterborough to Stockport!

Perhaps he's waiting for Alex Ferguson to retire?

I was very disappointed that he turned us down, as I was when Coppell said he didn't want the job but it seems that only a few short months into his tenure, that Bloom ( who I wasn't keen on when I first heard he was taking over) seems to have the Midas touch all around.

Hopefully we can still find someone to stump up a bit of cash for Dickinson. It seems that (thankfully) he is not in Poyet's plans. If we are to get promoted we will need better quality going forward than Dickinson can offer.

You can just tell he's not Poyet's style of player. There was a reference to "how Poyet wants to play" in the article about Dickinson leaving on loan that spoke volumes.

Come, come, Mr Super! You can't have been you've been to Stockport as you'd realise just how beautiful it is. A veritable paradise on earth, I think you'll find. :thumbsup:
