Funeral costs.

A very distant relative of mine has sadly passed away and his wife has said the the cost of the most basic funeral is £3500.
This seems an unbelievable fee for what is actually involved, i would imagine a pre paid plan would have been more beneficial to her, but the profits must be huge.
It is a pity Harty know longer posts on here to defend the profession.

A friends Mother who was an Atheist passed away last year. Prior to her death, she specifically requested no funeral, and that her body be donated to Medical research. These wishes were carried out by her Family & they simply held a memorial evening to celebrate her life.

Most Undertakers have something called a 'Paupers Funeral' which by the very name, puts many people off, probably due to stigma reasons. I've no idea what the difference is between a normal funeral?

I've been told the pre-payment plans are a take-on. You pay more out than the actual do costs. I pay a tenner a month into an over 50 plan, and the payout will more than cover a do and a fair amount of beer, and I would have to live to over 80 odd to go into a loss situation (which is unlikely hic!)

My father's funeral cost £1500 14 years ago. The crematoria charge a fortune and a simple coffin is a grand. I have said I want to go in a cardboard box as I begrudge paying out for expensive wood that's going to get burnt.

We have plenty of cardboard boxes we may have to patch a few together, we may have to pallet wrap it as well....................just in case of rain.
