The only surprise I have from that is they haven't decided to build their house (nail pallets together) on Hove Lawns, while demanding the traffic is re-routed away from the seafront because the emissions will affect poor baby Kai's asthma.

All too easy to punch down people. If you want to make a difference be brave and punch up.

Hmm. If I was using my housing benefit to save up and build a house I wouldn’t be all over national media yammering about it. Because they are admitting to receiving too much housing benefit. Or they’re withholding their rent?
They’re morons and they deserve all the shit that comes their way.

The article says "build a “remote” home and live off nature" Seeing as there is nowhere in the slightest bit remote in SE England I can only hope they are sodding off to the Scottish Highlands, or even better one of the small Scottish islands. Wanting to live a low impact life is admirable but relying on others to do so is much less admirable. The poor kids have decades of therapy ahead of them.

I’m only amazed these benefits scrounges haven’t set up a crowd fund page to help build what will know doubt look like a shed in the middle of a junk yard.

I believe they tried that last year. They got about £46 I think. They have now resorted to stealing from the taxpayer to realise their dream.

If you rent from the council or a housing association, the maximum Housing Benefit you can get is the full amount of rent you have to pay.

The story is bollocks.

On whose part? They said that’s what they are doing? Strange lie to tell.

Nah I'll let you have fun group bashing these people, I mean you are all daily getting ass****ed by your politicans, businessmen and media conglomerates so I could easily see how you get the idea and inspiration to kick downwards and spit at these people using your precious money while not giving two ****s that any and all of the idiots you be voting for tomorrow regardless of party are gonna make sure the 1% can put all of their wealth in the Cayman Islands while the homeless UK youth is begging for money on the streets.

Yea enjoy this opportunity to feel like you're better and stronger than someone else by bashing this family. I'm not going to go in to the subject if these people are doing the "right or the wrong" thing, it would distract from all the great bashing.

There's quite a lot of assumptions and lack of nuance in that.

As someone who campaigns against the injustices visited by the 1% and their political and press servants does that permit me to also say I think this story, if true, suggests this couple are just as guilty of taking advantage of others for their own benefit and without looking after others as the 1%? Or are we only allowed to take binary positions?

The idea that rich elite are the only people who live outside norms we should complain about is intoxicating in appealing to our sense of injustice and a lot of our liberal tendencies, but it's also dangerously misguided if we want a society and community that works for everyone.

But isn't that the point? There are genuinely homeless people and there are people who are unable to work through illness or disability.

He is fit to work (in fact they both are) but they just can't be ****ed to go out and do a days graft. It is our taxes that support these wasters. If they are capable of working and choose not to they shouldn't get any support from the State. **** 'em.
