Probably not, he'd sit on me. BUT, when he's being paid £4k a week to do little more than f**k all and we're constantly being asked to put our hands in our pockets, whether he likes it or not, we have a right to slate the bloke.

Feeling a tad guilty this morning.

But, like pretty much every other football supporter, if he is picked on merit at the start of the season, I will be 100% behind him. I've never ever stood up and shouted abuse at a player who's clearly giving 100%, no matter how evident his lack of ability. Mayo has had his moments of incompetence over the years, but nobody gets on his back as he is obviously giving all he's got.

I think it's fair to say that 100% effort is not something that has always been apparent from GB: it was obvious last season that even Coppell thought he was well out of condition, as he never even put Butters on the bench. We won't be the last bunch of fans to comment on the guy's appearance. So many people would love to do what footballers do for a living, and it frustrates when you see someone apparently not putting in the required effort.

I hope he doesn't get the hump, as I'm sure he's heard worse over the years, and I would honestly be delighted to vote for GB as Player of the Year in May should he prove us all wrong.

well I don't pick much of that up in my South Stand enclave!

A few people go on at Watson sometimes, and one or two or insist on shouting "sort it out Micky/Taylor/Coppell" as soon as the opposition launches an attack.

Mark Walton is the only other one I can remember really copping it! Deservedly so probably.

Nah, wouldn't abuse the Mayo. I don't shout at players anyway, just mutter abuse amongst the others where I reside in the South Stand! Like pretty much everyone I think.

How can anyone criticise the efforts put in by the Ginger Prince?! Though I do think players have to take the rough with the smooth, they do a much envied job, for more money than the average Joe, even in Div 2, they work shorter hours than most of us, and are happy enough to large it when things are going well. Then complain when they have to play twice a week! But that's another topic entirely....

when I saw this thread yesterday thought It was abit unfair.

ive had my gripes over players in the past but id never go to the extend some of you lot did!

We as Brighton fans have a good reputation for not moaning ,why has it changed now?

remember when kitson scored at reading? thought people were abit harsh on him, although he deserved more stick than butters.

ive heard no bad feeling about him from other players like we did about kitson

Butters will surprise a few people this season, is more than good enough for div 2, coppel will get the best out of him, he is easy on a par with someone like Crosby or Carr
