You are in a car travelling at 50mph and someone within the car propels a tennis ball at a speed of exactly 50mph.

What is the true speed of the tennis ball?:p

You are actually incorrect. Sorry to piss on your bonfire, but I think you'll find the word 'dermatoglyphics' has fifteen letters with none repeated.
Thank you, thank you.

Come on folks, no correct answers yet although one perhaps inadvertently is near the answer in terms of the explanation.

The direction of either the car or tennis ball is not relevant.

OK Time to put you out of your misery. This question was on 5Live earlier in the week and some bright spark got it right.

Th scientifically correct answer is that is that the ball is travelling at both 50mph AND 100mph! Supposedly its something related to Einsteins theory of relativity:p

Almsost as beguiling a question as how Mark Farrington was ever considered a professional footballer!:D

It's travelling at 50mph in relation to the car and at 100mph in relation to the road.

Our physics teacher used to say it was IMPOSSIBLE to travel at the speed of light! We asked what would happen if you had two ships in space both travelling towards each other at almost the speed of light. When they pass each other they would be travelling almost twice the speed of light reletive to each other!!!

Get out of THAT!
