Girls/women under the age of 25 seem to be particularly badly affected by the 'Rachel from Friends' way of talking , and are really annoying:

"And I'm. like, kind of, y'know, this is really cool"

"Oh my God [shrieked at Volume 11], I so thought that too, that is so weird"

"Yeah, it was so, like, really cool, and I'm like, whatever"

Bimbo Babble.

But EVERYONE in this thread uses Americanisms, such as:

everyday
blackmail
hijacking
(go on a) bender
cool
weed [tobacco]
back out
come clean
boost
the thick of it
no odds
disc jockey
bulldoze
get the hang of
under the weather

shhhhh - you are not supposed to ADMIT that

Why do Yanks pronounce the silent 'h' in Vehicle
and buoy as boowee.
How does it go "Two nations seperated by a common language"

:thud:

Jeez guys, the language evolves, get with the program. Dickens (who traveled extensively in the US) enraged his fellow Victorians by coming back home and using Americanisms such as 'lengthy' and 'influential'. All your Luddite opposition to change is just as parochial and futile ... although it will be a cold day in Hell before I use the word 'upcoming' instead of 'forthcoming'.

finally!

f*** me. I used to get annoyed by some americanisms and indeed still do but the way some Brits go on about it is f***ing embarrassing!

As Brovion says, Languages evolve (sometimes revolve). They take their influences from many quarters and are fascinating things. How many of the posters on here's parents shudder at expressions they use/used?

Like, so, get a life dudes, yeah?

P.S. I love it in Peep Show how Mark sometimes uses phrases like 'I don't roll like that'

P.P.S. I do hate business speak though

But the language isn't evolving is it. It is getting corrupted.
