Just been rung up by 'Sky' and offered this... as a longstanding full SKY with films and sports package customer.

Seems almost 'too good to be true'... can see on various forums a few other people have had similar offers recently... but no confirmation of instals and/or satisfied customers.

Anyone else been offered this or taken it up?

I have heard of this being done in areas where Virgin are strong to long time customers, if in doubt, take the blokes details and ask to ring him back [making sure it is a published sky number] or similar

hmm.. we are out in the sticks... no cable and none likely.

The number he gave me was the main Sky customer number 08442 414141.

I got a free Sky HD box with free installation last December, but I'm paying an additional £10 per month subscription for the HD. If they're now offering it for NOTHING then thats a bit of a PISSER from my point of view (but I'd take them up on it if I were you).

Perhaps they have some signup targets to hit before year end? or in prep for 3D in April?

We nearly did that... but were waiting to have the cash to upgrade the TV too... I think we will go for it - if ringing the main Sky Customer number proves it is genuine... especially as the DVD recoder has just blown up and we don't have Sky+

Just spoken to Sky and interrogated some poor girl. The offer yu describe (free Sky HD+ box and installation and no upgrade fee for 12 months) is a Sky employees 'Friends & Family' offer. Sky employees have a number of voucher codes they can dish out with this offer on. She explained that they are only able to give them out to friends and family but she implied that they do get given to other people too. I asked her if she and I were 'friends' (she did sound a bit scared from this point on I have to say) and she said sadly, no. She also told me that all calls are recorded!

I asked if the employees get commish for these sign ups. She said no, but that they all have sign-up targets and these do count towards that. So maybe - just maybe Titanic - someone at Sky has seen your name on the subscriber list and has called you privately in order to offer you the deal from their f&f vouchers. If they did, you would gain from getting the deal and they would presumably be one subscriber nearer to their sign-up target.

So it sounds legit - but perhaps the way that you were contacted/selected is less so. Grab it I say.

Just for info - when I pressed the girl I was offered free Sky HD+ box and installation and free HD upgrade if I took out a multi-room contract - which costs £10 more each month. So in effect it's a take out HD and get multiroom (or vice-versa) - still not a bad deal.

If you get Sky deals, then don't mess up a relationship you're in in that first 12 months of multi-channel drivel. I am still paying £40 a month for something i can't use by ballsing up a perfectly reasonable relationship. The ex too wants money back for the big tv we bought and i am of course willing to do so, plus extras. If i'd looked into the likely cost of being a dickhead and seeking the affections of an other, then i'd have maybe knocked it on the head. I'm broke now and might have to call off a season-ticket renewal next year.
I blame Sky and my willingness to sell out to fund those rightwing pornographers.

I love the fact Sky at the moment are giving £10 M&S vouchers to flat owners to provide their managing agent details to get a communal dish installed (will never work with the blue rinse residents association that run our lot)

Pays for some steak :)

Certainly is. The picture is so sharp it practically lacerates your eyeballs.

I went into a Sony shop last week. Now I've got HD: but the pictures on their HD TVs were something else: they seemed to stand out from the screen, it was quite incredible. They called their TV's something like `Picture Perfect` or similar - and they took even HD to a new level.

Sorry to hear of your plight MB.

I will heed your wise words with regards to the present Mrs Titanic and try not to balls things up any more than usual.

Is the porn in HD too?

Might have to check that out then (not that I'm in the market for a new tellybox, at least not for the forseeable).

I was listening to Danny Bakers show the other morning on 5-Live, and he was saying he believes he's been sold a PUP with this HD lark, and that the only difference he can see is that it looks like the contrast has been turned up.

Then he mentioned the gold SCART lead he's using for it

Just taken up the free HD+ box and installation offer as a new customer. Got the HD sub for the standard tenner per month but haven't added sports YET. I hate giving money to the Antichrist but was getting increasingly pissed off with the reduction of the BBC HD picture quality, the fact you can't get C4HD on freesat and the lack of ITVHD progs apart from the odd footie match. The only downside is you can't get the ITVHD games in HD on Sky and the picture quality for standard terrestrial through Sky is appaling. I've still got my freesat box though so might shove that upstairs on the bedroom PORN TV.
